Join us on Saturday December 1st for the 15th Annual St. John Ambulance Christmas Craft Sale from 10am to 4pm at the Victoria Park Armoury in Lindsay. Admission is $2.00 and children are free. Door prizes, craft raffles and a 50-50 draw. Lunch counter provided by the Santa Claus Stocking Fund. Over 60 vendors will be offering handmade items including wheat weaving, knitting and sewing, quilting, wood crafts, jewellery, Christmas decorations and baking and so much more! Come start your Christmas shopping with us. All proceeds go to support the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog program as well as the Medical First Responder program. You’ve probably seen those TV ads for online DNA testing — the ones where happy people who were unsure about their ethnic background discover a new heritage. If you’re working on a family tree and have hit a dead end, you may wonder if one of these tests might help nudge your research back another generation or two. But even a quick online search will bring up a confusing array of tests — Y-DNA, autosomal, mitochondrial — and none of them is cheap. How far back will each of them take you? How do you decide which test is best for your purposes?

Joyce Fingland from the Ontario Genealogical Society will answer these questions and give further information, starting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4, at the Isabel Turner Branch of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library. This presentation will outline the kinds of results provided by two major players, Ancestry and Family Tree DNA. Joyce will explain the pros and cons of each service and show how each has helped form her own family tree.

Snow and Leaf Angels are matched with seniors and persons with physical disabilities living in the Town to clear snow and leaves from Town sidewalks and driveway entrances. This year’s Program will run until March 31, 2019. Program details and how to volunteer can be found on the Town’s website, or by contacting (519) 735-2184 Ext. 143. Seniors (those ages 65 or older) and persons with physical disabilities can also contact the Town to apply for assistance.
