Community Event - Peterborough/Lindsay - Benefit Concert at The Salvation Army
Five mornings a week, The Salvation Army in downtown Peterborough provides breakfast meals for anyone who needs it. There was approximately a 17% increase in the number of breakfasts served in the first five months of 2022 (5,644) to 2023 (6,595). The difference from 2023 to the same time period for 2024 has grown to 36% (6,595 to 8,960 respectively). With the ever-increasing numbers of individuals requiring a breakfast meal, plus the tremendous jump in grocery costs, our donation dollars are being stretched to their limits. We really need help to continue assisting those in need within our community with this vital program.
Kenneth Beal, a professional tenor from Germany, this year joined by his soprano wife, Karen Davis and pianist, Charles Gerard, will perform a Benefit Concert in support of this much-needed program. The concert is in memory of Mr. Lloyd Beal, Ken’s father, who faithfully volunteered at the Breakfast Program for years. All ticket money and additional donations collected as a result of the concert will go directly to the Breakfast Program at The Salvation Army in Peterborough. Over 130 posters have been distributed around the city and surrounding communities, trying to spread the word about this event. The Breakfast Program is totally funded by donations. Last year’s concert raised over $3,700. We are striving to surpass that amount this year if we can.
