Public Notices/Announcements - Muskoka - GRAVENHURST AGAINST POVERTY
Gravenhurst Against Poverty's "YAC Virtual Hangout": Youth Supporting Youth Sign-Up Form
Join us for the next YAC Virtual Hangout scheduled for Friday, November 19th at 6PM.
We are partnering with the Elizabeth Fry Society Simcoe Muskoka for an exciting and creative holiday activity with a strong charitable focus.
The Elizabeth Fry Society in Simcoe Muskoka supports, advocates for, and empowers youth at risk to enrich their lives and to inspire positive change in the community. For the holidays, they are filling totes with essential items such as hygiene products, clothes, hats and mitts to be distributed to youth in need connected to their Youth Trustee Program.
Through this awesome team-up, we plan to spend the next Virtual Hangout decorating totes, ornaments and writing cards that will be included in these packages. After the totes, ornaments and cards are created at the Virtual Hangout, members of the YAC Committee will pick them up, add essential items from the wishlist (such as things listed above) and will bring them to the Elizabeth Fry Society for holiday distribution. Together, we will be providing an avenue for local youth to support other local youth.
Supplies, totes, ornaments and everything needed will be provided to those who register - along with plenty of snacks!
This activity is completely FREE and is open to youth ages 12-18. We are still working on programming for young people ages 19-29 and hope to have an update on that soon!
To register for our November YAC: Virtual Hangout 'Youth Supporting Youth', please fill out the form on our facebook page @gravenhurstagainstpoverty
Public Notices/Announcements - Muskoka - BRACEBRIDGE WINTER PARKING RESTRICTIONS IN EFFECT
BRACEBRIDGE, ON – As we get ready for winter, Bracebridge residents, visitors and business owners are reminded to observe Town of Bracebridge winter parking restrictions.
To ensure our municipal highway and roadways are clear to accommodate traffic flow, emergency response vehicles, road maintenance vehicles and snow plows, the Town prohibits the parking of a motor vehicle on any municipal highway and roadway or within any municipal parking lot between the hours of 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. from October 16th to April 15th. In accordance with the Highway Traffic Act and municipal parking regulations, any vehicle parked on a roadway at any time of the day that interferes with or impedes municipal winter maintenance operations may be tagged and/or towed at the vehicle owner’s risk and expense.
“In addition, residents are reminded that vehicles on or overhanging a sidewalk or boulevard are prone to damage and are a dangerous obstacle. They prevent Town operators from properly clearing the sidewalks and can cause accessibility issues for pedestrians such as seniors, people with mobility issues and parents pushing strollers”, states Michael Mayer, Chief By-Law Enforcement Officer.
What can you do?
• Plan ahead and leave your vehicle at home;
• Make sure your vehicle is not on or overhanging a sidewalk or boulevard;
• Advise visitors and business patrons of this restriction during the winter season; and
• Leave your vehicle in one of eighteen (18) designated overnight parking spaces within the Hiram Street Parking Lot located at 85 Hiram Street in the Downtown core.
Winter parking restrictions ensure that the Town’s winter maintenance operations are able to keep municipal roads and sidewalks safe and clear for pedestrians, public transit, and motorists.
