On Saturday February 22 from 11am to 3pm in the Loyalist College Cafeteria, Gleaners Food Bank and the Quinte Regional Food Share Shelter present their 9th annual Empty Bowls event with an added twist. This year’s event will feature three vendors in the alcohol beverage sector. Meyers Creek Brewing Company (Belleville), Kings Mill Cider (Stirling) and Sandbanks Winery (Wellington) will be providing flight-tasting samples of their products. This annual event comprises of local pottery and wood artisans who create hand crafted bowls for ticket buyers. Tickets are $25 for a small bowl (meal included) or $40 for a larger bowl (meal included). Meals can be purchased at $8 for those that are not interested in purchasing a hand-crafted bowl. Our artisan and vendor marketplace will feature more than 20 local vendors displaying their unique creations and wares. Alongside the vendor marketplace, the Quinte Wood Turners will be on stage demonstrating their craft.

The Loyalist College Culinary Program (overseen by Chef John Schneeberger) as well as Downtown Belleville’s Earl & Angelo’s restaurant will provide our gourmet soups. The students through the Culinary Program at St. Theresa’s Catholic Secondary School will provide the dessert.

Empty Bowls is a campaign to increase the awareness surrounding hunger in our communities. Each bowl is a reminder that hunger should not happen where we live and each person should have access to this basic right in life. All funds raised help to feed the hungry accessing food bank services in Hastings and Prince Edward County and part of Lennox and Addington County.

This event is in support of Gleaners Food Bank and the Quinte Regional Food Share Shelter including: Picton United Church Food Bank, Wellington Store House Food Bank, Deseronto Helping Hands Food Bank, Stirling Christian Community Care and Land O’ Lakes Community Services Food Bank (Northbrook/Cloyne).

In 2019, Gleaners Food Bank supported 2037 families, 4842 children, 8394 adults and 1003 seniors. We provided 5721 food hampers and registered 931 new clients for food assistance. We distributed over 157,500 Kilograms of food to the quinte region including members of the Quinte Regional Food Share Shelter, meal programs and non-profit agencies.

Tickets can purchased in advance at the above locations, online at www.gleanersfoodbank.ca prior to the event or through the Quinte Arts Council in Downtown Belleville. Tickets can also be purchased at the door on the day of the event.
