The children in your family or school have an opportunity to help a family in Windsor become a Habitat homeowner, thanks to the "Meaning of Home" national writing contest. The contest asks students in Grades 4, 5, and 6 to share what home means to them at www.meaningofhome.ca

Three grand prize winners, one for each grade, will win an iPad, a Pizza Party, and most importantly a grant of $25,000 directed to a Windsor affordable home build through Habitat for Humanity.

More local entries equal more local funding.

For every local child that submits a poem or story at www.meaningofhome.ca a $10 donation will be made by Genworth Canada to Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex.

In the last 12 years, over 50,000 students have shared what home has meant to them. Thanks to their inspiring words, and Genworth Canada’s generous support, the Meaning of Home contest has raised over $1 million to build homes across Canada for families in need of decent and affordable housing

The Town of Essex is putting the call out to local youth looking for summer jobs.

Every year, the Town employs local youth in a wide range of positions, from assisting finance staff to maintaining public parks.

“Working for the Town is a great opportunity to build skills and gain experience in a number of potential career paths,” said Brandi Sieben, Manager, Human Resources. “We often have youth who return to summer work for a number of years and many who have gone on to work in the municipal sector.”

Local youth can find job descriptions and apply through the new online application form available at www.essex.ca/SummerStudents. Applications must be submitted by 4pm on Friday, March 1.

Resumes and applications can also be emailed to hr@essex.ca or delivered in person to Essex Town Hall, 33 Talbot Street South, Essex Centre.
