Conquering the Black Pit - On Tuesday, November 7th, the Nipissing District Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society will be hosting a presentation by Captain Doug Newman, 22 Wing Heritage Officer, C.F.B. North Bay. His talk will be on the Royal Air Force’s special school set up right here in North Bay to train airmen during WW 2 on how to fly the ocean and conquer the Black Pit, as some called the Atlantic. This highly successful training facility helped ensure the Allied air forces got their badly needed aircraft. The presentation will be held on the upstairs mezzanine at the North Bay Public Library, 271 Worthington Street East, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. For more information, please call (705)474-4830, extension 2833.
