Viva Voce! Choral Series: Avanti Chamber Singers, conducted by Rachel Rensink-Hoff
The Viva Voce Choral Series features Brock’s student choral ensembles (men’s, women’s and mixed choruses) as well as Avanti Chamber Singers (avantichambersingers.com), who serve as Ensemble-in-Residence for the Department of Music. Under the direction of conductor Rachel Rensink-Hoff, these excellent choirs perform multiple concerts throughout the academic year.

GUITAR EXTRAVAGANZA III:
The Year of the Guitar Orchestra!!!
Brock University’s annual celebration of the guitar continues, with an orchestra of 60 guitars comprised of Brock students, local amateurs and professionals – all under the direction of Brock Guitar Instructor Timothy Phelan. Featuring music composed by Timothy Phelan (including the North American Premiere of Songs Of Struggle; Voices Of Freedom! – based on anti-Apartheid struggle songs), and the World Premiere of Carpe Noctem – a six movement work written especially for this occasion by Niagara composer Floyd Turner.
Soloists in these works will include Brock Guitar Performance majors Eric Godfree and Jesse Luciani, award-winning Canadian classical guitarist Emma Rush, and renowned Scottish guitarist Matthew McAllister, who will cross the Atlantic to be featured in the two premieres.
The concert will also include a tribute to the late Niagara guitar legend Warren Stirtzinger, featuring three of Warren’s longtime friends and collaborators Paul Saunders (Niagara luthier), George Kane (Buffalo jazz master) and St. Catharines native James Bryan McCollum (The Philosopher Kings, Prozzak).

Tweed Festival of Trees 2017
The fourteenth annual Tweed Festival of Trees will be held this year, as always, the first weekend in December - Thursday, November 30th to Sunday, December 3rd at the Tweed Agricultural Building, 617 Louisa Street, Tweed. The theme this year is "Our Canadian Roots". A $2.00 admittance fee and a $2.00 raffle ticket can win one of 88 decorated items. All proceeds are donated to projects involving youth in the Municipality of Tweed. Final draw: Sunday, December 3rd at 3:00 pm at the Agricultural Building. Encore! Professional Concert Series presents: The Walker Quartet with faculty pianist Karin Di Bella
In its second season the Department of Music's resident Walker String Quartet will partner with faculty pianist Karin Di Bella in a program in of two of the most iconic works in the string quintet repertoire. The Schumann quintet was written in 1842 and created the genre. Almost 100 years later Shostakovich redefined it.

Canada 150 Performance of Suite Canadienne composed by Michael Kositsky
The University Wind Ensemble enjoys a rich heritage of musical excellence, bringing together both university and high school students as well as members of the Niagara musical community. Led by conductor Zoltan Kalman, the ensemble explores major symphonic wind band works, both original and arranged. Includes a Canada 150 performance of “Suite Canadienne”: A Medley of Canadian Folksongs, composed by Michael Kositsky.
