Northumberland New Ventures Band is a charitable organization and group of bands located in Cobourg, Ontario. We have 3 main bands plus a few smaller ensembles, a Big Band, and a Piccola Band that performs at seniors' and retirement residences. Our members, in many cases, have never held an instrument before joining the band, and are fulfilling a life-long dream of learning to play. Krystal Snider has 10+ years of experience working in the non-profit field for feminist agencies. She specializes in supporting agencies working with those who have experienced gender-based violence with particular expertise in human trafficking. As a survivor herself of human trafficking, coupled with her years of experience in the field, Krystal has led a variety of community development responses to identify, support and build systemic capacity to reduce barriers to accessing services. Krystal uses trauma-informed, inter-sectional, anti-oppressive and human rights-based approaches.  Krystal remains passionate about supporting community to take action on learning more about human trafficking and taking an active action to prevent vulnerabilities creating conditions for trafficking in communities.

The presentation will cover:

1) Definition of human trafficking

2) Types of human trafficking

3) Thinking critically about data 

4) Data for Niagara and Canada

5) Human rights based approaches

6) Legislation that can foster conditions of human trafficking 

This event is hosted by the Women Empowered Women's Institute (St. Catharines Branch) It is free to attend and a donation would be appreciated to help Collaborated Communities Solutions create more awareness about Human Trafficking and what we an do as a community to stop human trafficking.

On Saturday, October 2nd the Lombardy Ag Society is thrilled to be hosting a demolition derby. Rules and regulations for anyone wanting to enter the smash up fun can be found on our website.
