The Chatham-Kent Children's Safety Village is holding it's 5th Farm Safety Day Wednesday, August 28th from 10am-2pm for local children of Chatham-Kent for just $5/child.

Each year the Chatham-Kent Children's Safety Village provides Farm Safety Program to local grade 6 students of Chatham-Kent (during the school) year in partnership with South West Ag Partners teaching about dangers on the farm with emphasis on ATV safety, chemical & grain safety, lawn mower & tractor safety and safe play areas.

As we continue to promote farm safety to all local children, we have added a Summer Learning Farm Safety Day Wed Aug 28 for all children to learn about kids safety on farms.

We are reaching out to all local agricultural businesses, educational resources &farm related contacts offering free exhibit space to help educate and train local children who live on, visit or work on farms. This year's exhibits include PTO demonstration, ATV mock rescue, grain bin "tug-of-war", O.P.P. rollover simulator and so much more!

Sponsorship's are available for $250 with 10 hats, volunteer positions & exhibit space for all who want them!

There is a hat, hot dog lunch, water & apple provided for each attending. Last year we had over 80 local kids ages 4-12 who attended, and we hope to continue to grow. If you would like to be part of this day, please do not hesitate to contact me.

The Town of Tecumseh is excited to announce the entertainment line-up for the 44th annual Tecumseh Corn Festival at Lacasse Park.

  • Friday, August 23, 2019 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM Afternoon performance by Elvis Tribute Artist, Norm Ackland Jr. Evening performances by Christee Palace and Jody Rafoul
  • Saturday, August 24, 2019 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM Afternoon performance by family entertainer, singer/songwriter, composer, actor, author and TV host Fred Penner Evening performances by Bishop Boys, Phil Kane Trio, and Pretzel Logic
  • Sunday, August 25, 2019 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM Cream of the Crop Invitational Car Show presented by Muscle Cars & Classic with celebrity guest Tom Smith, the Car Guy from TVs Misfit Garage and the annual Miss Tecumseh Pageant

“We are proud to present a diverse line-up of performances for all ages once again this year,” said Gary McNamara, Mayor of Tecumseh. “We are looking forward to another great year for the Corn Festival and hope attendees enjoy.”

Friday afternoon is Senior’s Day with free admission to the park for Seniors. Saturday is Family Day starting with the “Largest Small Town Parade” at 11AM followed by family fun at the park including a Giant Corn Maze, Bouncy Castles, Mini Golf, Pony Rides, Jangles the Clown, and the Border City Barkers. Sunday is Classic Cars & Golden Oldies Day will showcase the top classic and muscle cars in the county along with the crowning of a new Miss Tecumseh.

The Tecumseh Leisure Pool, located within Lacasse Park, will be offering a free Recreational Swim each afternoon for visitors attending the festival.

The Tecumseh Corn Festival was named one of the Top 100 Festivals in Ontario by Festivals & Events Ontario for the 15th consecutive year. This year’s event is three days of spectacular family entertainment including: a vendor village filled with a variety of Arts and Crafts; food booths; All Canadian Entertainment Midway; and the renowned Corn Booth featuring “Tons and Tons” of Hot Buttered Corn on the Cob from Tecumseh’s own Bonduelle and prepared by the volunteers of the Optimist Club of St. Clair Beach.

This year marks the 11th anniversary of the 2019 Annual Terry Fox Giant Used Book Sale. Conceived initially as a secondary fundraiser for the Windsor Terry Fox Run with a goal of collecting 1,000 gently used books and raising $1,000, the book sale has been very successful year after year and to date has raised a total of $154,640.10 for the Terry Fox Foundation for Cancer Research!    
 
Held in Tecumseh, the book sale begins with 8 different BOOK DROP-OFF dates, followed by a month of book sorting for the actual 3 days BOOK SALE in September. 
 
The book sale will be held again this summer in Tecumseh. As always, the store will also be headquarters to the Tecumseh Terry Fox Run, were it will feature TF Run merchandise for the local Run and offer support for participants wishing to learn more about Canadian icon Terry Fox.

All books $1; kids 2 for $1 at St Clair Shores Shopping Centre – 25 Amy Croft at Manning and County Rd 22, in plaza next door to Sobeys, tucked in the corner behind Dollarama   (look for Giant Terry Fox cut-out and balloons) 
 

USED BOOK DONATIONS/DROP OFF DATES: 

Saturday and Sunday, July 27, 28; Friday, Saturday, Sunday, August 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, between 9:00 am – 4:00 pm all eight days.  

USED BOOK SALE DATES: 

Saturday and Sunday, September 7, 8, and Saturday, September 14, between 9:00 am – 4:00 pm all three days. 

 
All proceeds are go to the Terry Fox Foundation for Cancer Research; tally added to the Tecumseh Terry Fox Run, held Sunday, September 15 at Green Acres Optimist Park at 9:00am. 
 
Community event, volunteer-led, and dependent solely on donated books, space and community support. To date almost $155,000 has been raised through the annual book sale for cancer research. This year’s goal is to see this successful Terry Fox Fundraiser into its second decade!

Steps To The Past - The Nipissing District Branch of Ontario Ancestors, Ontario Genealogical Society, will be presenting a five week course for those with little or no experience in genealogical research.  An experienced instructor will show participants the steps to discovering and recording their family history.  Course will include record keeping, finding documents, citing sources, on-line research, etc.  One-on-one assistance available for all participants.  Dates – Saturdays – September 7th to 28th and October 5th.  Location – North Bay Library, Joan Duquette Room, Upper Mezzanine.  Time - 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m..  Class Size – Limited to ten with preregistration required.  Deadline for Registration – August 23rd.  Fee - $30 OGS members or $40 for non-members.  Registration and information – please email nipissinggenealogy@gmail.com.
