Gardeners of Burlington presents guest speaker Kevin Kavanagh “Native vs. invasive plants while gardening for nature”.

06:30 PM — 09:00 PM

Please come and join a friendly group of amateur gardeners interested in learning more about all aspects of gardening.

Kevin Kavanagh is the owner of South Coast Gardens and Consulting, a small nursery and landscape design business in heart of Ontario’s ‘Carolinian zone’.

Although an avid gardener for much of his life, Kevin spent most of his early career in the field of nature conservation working for organizations such as The Nature Conservancy of Canada and World Wildlife Fund Canada.

Kevin’s long standing interest in North American native plants began while conducting field studies in the diverse eastern forests of Carolinian Canada, the Appalachian Mountains and the U.S. southeast. Today, Kevin gets great satisfaction from growing and introducing customers to plants that provide benefits to pollinators, birds and other wildlife.

Kevin holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) from McGill University, a M.Sc. from York University and several years of post-graduate research in Botany at the University of Toronto. He is a member of the Grand Erie Master Gardeners and Niagara Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society. Kevin has authored several book chapters and articles celebrating Canada’s wild places and the rich plant life of Ontario’s Carolinian zone.

Waterside Art Group - Art Exhibition and Sale: "Renewal". Friday 24th - Sunday 26th May

10:00 AM — 05:00 PM

The 10th annual art exhibit and show from Waterside Art Group, aptly named Renewal, opens to the public on Friday 24th May at Summer & Grace Gallery, Lakeshore & Allan St. in Oakville.

The Waterside artists, some of whom have painted together for over 15 years, meet each week to paint at the Oakville Galleries Studio in Gairloch Gardens. This group of 20 have been hosting their annual exhibit & sale each spring at Gairloch and wanted a change in 2024. “The Summer & Grace Gallery and event space is a wonderful venue for us and the Waterside Art Group is happy to have their professional assistance in hosting our show” agree Priti Girgla and Barb Clausi, long-term members and former show managers.

“Our 2023/24 season has been rejuvenated with new classes, private instructors and some new members. Choosing the theme of Renewal for this year’s show was straightforward - we're excited to share new paintings. Taking this step to work with a trusted professional gallery in the heart of our community allows us to create a new experience for our collectors and allows the opportunity for a preview reception, which we know they'll appreciate. We are also thrilled to continue our support of The Lighthouse for Grieving Children and 15% of all sales will be donated to them.” added Kim Gordon, Chair of the 2024 RENEWAL Show and Sale.

Visit us at  https://watersideartgroup.alsip.ca/

Please take some time out to visit the gallery during opening hours: Friday and Saturday, 10am until 5pm and Sunday, noon until 5pm, over 100 original paintings available to purchase.
