Speakers' Night: Cameos! Did you know?

Cameos have been around for thousands of years and there is a lot more than meets the eye when looking at them, from the different materials from which they are crafted, through their uses and the diverse subject matter they depict, to how styles have evolved over the years.

The Oakville Historical Society is pleased to our Speakers' Night Series: free, in person, drop in  events with speakers presenting on a wide range of topics.
Events are held at the Coach House located on the Erchless Estate in historic downtown Oakville.
Please plan to arrive by 7:15pm. Parking is limited.

Vintage Car & Motorcycle Ride, In Memory of Teagan Walsh, In support of the Oakville & Milton Humane Society.

“Riding and Providing for Those Who Can't”

Teagan's Ride is in memory of Teagan Walsh, who loved animals and wanted to become a veterinarian. Teagan and her family adopted a cat named Otis from the Oakville & Milton Humane Society. This ride honors her memory, all donations will go directly to benefit the Oakville and Milton Humane Society. 

During the past year, many pets have found homes through the Humane Society. By honoring Teagan’s memory, we can all continue to help keep her legacy alive.

Gardeners of Burlington presents guest speaker Margaret Larson: “Magnificent Monarchs”

Gardeners of Burlington presents guest speaker Margaret Larson: “Magnificent Monarchs”. Please come and join a friendly group of amateur gardeners interested in learning more about all aspects of gardening.

Margaret Larson is a conservationist who works to increase the population of monarch butterflies. She collects monarch butterfly eggs from milkweed plants, watches over the caterpillars as they develop and then releases them back into the wild when they emerge from their cocoons as butterflies. Larson also works with volunteers to conserve the milkweed plant, a key source of food for the monarch. She speaks at schools and community centres to educate others about the importance of environmentalism.

The Oakville Historical Society's Speakers' Night Series presents:

From the compound steam engine and gasoline of the Industrial Revolution to the lightbulb and the telephone of the Victorian era to the Canadarm and Blackberry of today; we invented them all!!! From a life-long passion for Canadian inventors and technology, Professor Mark Rector will provide an update on his comprehensive tome, chock full of inventors’ stories, firsts, and innovations that happened here in our “Home and Inventive Land.”​

The Oakville Historical Society's Speakers' Nights are open to the public.

Events take place at the Coach House of the Erchless Estate, located at 8 Navy Street (corner of King Street) in historic downtown Oakville.

Parking is limited. Please plan to arrive by no later than 7:15pm.
