REBORN: Songs of War & Peace

07:30 PM — 09:10 PM

Reborn: Songs of War & Peace delves into the intersection between music and the human experience during times of conflict and remembrance.

Through a myriad of musical styles, the concert illustrates how music has been a source of solace, a means of processing grief, and a beacon of hope that spans history and culture. The concert will feature a diverse selection of pieces that highlight the dual themes of war and peace, juxtaposing the stark realities of conflict with the enduring human spirit and capacity for hope. Musical highlights include excerpts from “Seven Last Words of Unarmed” by Joel Thompson; a powerful piece that memorializes the final words of unarmed black men killed by police.

The concert will showcase a world premiere by Aaron Manswell, the winner of Cantabile's 2024 BIPOC Song Competition. The concert will also feature pieces by renowned Canadian composers Eleanor Daley, Mark Sirett, Hussein Janmohamed, and Cree-Dene composer Sherryl Sewepegaham, offering a rich tapestry of sounds and stories that reflect our diverse cultural heritage
