Convos Youth Zone - Relaunch & Open House

07:00 PM — 09:00 PM

Dear Friend

On behalf of Conversation Cafe we invite you to join us in celebration of the re-launch and ribbon cutting of Convos Youth Zone on Friday, February 28th, 7-9pm in support of young people’s mental and physical development across Niagara. An evening filled with connection, community and a common vision to support the youth in our region.

Located in Beamsville, Convos is a privately funded Charity & youth centre supported by Conversations Cafe. Here, vulnerable & at-risk youth can participate in skill building programs at no cost to support their physical, emotional and psychosocial development. With a 12 year history in Beamsville, Convos Youth Zone has built trust, resiliency and connection for young people to support the mental health and well-being of youth across Lincoln. With the help of our community partners, faithful supporters & volunteers, we can continue to make a positive impact on youth and give them the future they deserve.

Without early intervention, youth aged 15-24 have an increased risk of experiencing mental illness or substance abuse. Convos is geared to support young people aged 10-18+ through skill building programs and faith discussions encouraging healthy behaviours and a sense of value and belonging. A safe space and intentional programming can improve their emotional intelligence and interpersonal relationships allowing them to thrive and grow into the person they are meant to be.

With a goal of serving more youth in the region, we’re counting on the support from our community and people like you to help support and expand the program experience that Convos Youth Zone provides to vulnerable Youth within the Niagara Region.

Join us! | 7 PM Arrival | 7:30 PM Welcome Remarks & Special Guests | 8 PM Re-Launch Celebrations

On behalf of the Convos team and the youth of Niagara, thank you for helping us bring our mission to life.

Cameron Willis Talk

Keith Leckie Talk

Information on upcoming talks:

Join us March 29th at 1pm at the Grimsby Museum for an engaging talk presented by former assistant curator at Canada’s Penitentiary Museum in Kingston, guest speaker Cameron Willis. Willis will explore the great changes that took place at Kingston Penitentiary and in the Canadian federal prison system in general during the twentieth century. This talk follows the life of Louis Gallow, who first came to Kingston Penitentiary in 1919 from Hamilton as a teenager and was paroled for the last time in 1978, to shed light on these changes. Gallow took part in many of the key events of the era and lived through the professionalization of staff, liberalization of discipline, the creation of a rehabilitative regime, habitual offender designations, and new low-security prisons. Explore how prisoners experienced penal change and thought of reform from the perspective of someone who spent much of the 20th century behind bars. Tickets are available for $10 per person; pre-registration is required.

Happening April 12th, at 1pm at the Grimsby Museum with guest speaker Keith Leckie, join us as Leckie explores the true story of the “Black” Donnellys. A tale where Jim Donnelly and Johannah Magee boarded an immigrant ship from Ireland to Canada to start a new life that would eventually become filled with feuds, vendettas, and murder. Learn about how the Donelly family had become one of the most powerful families of Biddulph County, loved by some and hated by others, in this engaging discussion presented by scriptwriter, novelist, and film director Keith Leckie. Tickets are available for $10 per person; pre-registration is required

Pre-registration is required; tickets are available for purchase through the links provided or on the Museums website.

These events are filling up fast and space is limited so make sure to get your ticket while you can. Please contact the Museum for any questions or additional information at: (905) 945-5292, email at: museum-public@grimsby.ca or drop in during business hours.
