Community Event - Kingston - Saint-Saëns & Bizet featuring cellist Bryan Cheng

Smyth | Overture to the Boatswain’s Mate
Saint-Saëns | Cello Concerto No. 2
Bizet | Symphony in C Major

Join the Kingston Symphony for an afternoon of music by artists who were fierce in spirit! Ethel Smyth was a devoted champion of women’s suffrage in the United Kingdom, and that movement’s anthem is featured front and centre in her Overture to The Boatswain’s Mate. Award-winning cellist Bryan Cheng joins us to perform Saint-Saens’ Cello Concerto No. 2, playing on the very same Stradivari cello which was used to premiere the work in 1905. And we finish with a brilliant work from a young genius, Bizet’s sparkling Symphony in C, a melodious testament to his extraordinary talents.
