CK Reads Hosts: Local Author and Mental Health Advocate Brian Knowler

CK Reads is a community-wide book club where everyone in Chatham-Kent is invited to read the same book. Through discussions and programs, CK Reads hopes to bring the community closer together through a shared love of reading. CKPL invites everyone to read “City of the Lost” by Kelley Armstrong. One of the major themes that runs through this action-packed crime novel is mental health. Chatham-Kent Public Library is excited to host local author and mental health advocate Brian Knowler: Thursday, February 14       11:00 am                   Thamesville Branch, CKPL Thursday, February 19       6:30 pm                      Ridgetown Branch, CKPL   Knowler will share his journey through trauma, starting with a fateful collision in 2004, peaking with an emotional and physical crash in 2012, and leading to post-traumatic growth that includes professional speaking and authoring two books on trauma, mental health, and first responders. Brian also briefly discusses the aspects of leadership that helped him recover and that keep motivating him now. Brian’s written work includes “On the Other Side of Broken: One Cops Battle with the Demons of PTSD.” (2016) and “Career Suicide is Overrated and other Lessons for Leaders about Honouring Mental Health Where You Work, Live and Play.” (2018). Epilepsy Southwestern Ontario developed Seizure 101 presentations to educate adults of all ages about epilepsy and seizure first aid. The presentation aims to dispel myths, explain epilepsy, how seizures occur and how seizure disorders are diagnosed managed and treated. Participants will be able to identify different types of seizures, implement seizure first aid techniques and accommodate those persons living with epilepsy.

CK Animal Rescue NEED some committed foster families to take in seniors, bonded pairs and bigger dogs. If you are not afraid to help with scared dogs, they need YOU! If you have patience to teach a dog to trust again, they need YOU! If you would enjoy seeing the smallest improvement with a dog who was used to breed puppies over and over and only knew life in a cage, they need YOU! So many situations, so much need for help! They currently have a 16 month old JRT in need of a foster home and two bonded seniors (Yorkie mix and Maltese) who require foster homes.
