Local fire department looking for new recruits

Millions invested to expand Muskoka Brewery
Muskoka Brewery is investing $5-million in expansion projects. The funds will go towards increasing the brewery’s capacity, improve their beer products with new technology and equipment and expand the retail store and taproom. This is the largest investment in 23 years. The goal is to have it all completed in June 2018.

Bracebridge hosts vigil to honour the Humboldt Broncos
VIDEO: Hundreds gather at the Bracebridge Memorial Arena on Friday, April 13 for a vigil in support of the Humboldt Broncos. Many local dignitaries attended including Mayor Graydon Smith, Deputy Mayor Rick Maloney, MPP Norm Miller, MP Tony Clement and District of Muskoka Chair John Klinck. Other speakers included local paralympian Graeme Murray an former Humboldt Broncos player Jeff Whittle.
Muskoka Discovery Centre
Unique in Ontario, Watershed Wonders opens in July with a dozen interactive screens that take visitors deep into the many facets of the watershed. Visitors will discover five distinct sections that together tell the tale.
- Water Cycles shows how forests, lakes, shorelines and wetlands are the interconnected component parts of the watershed.
- Biodiversity is featured as the centerpiece of the exhibit, focusing on nature above and below the surface of the water.
- Nature Challenged explores the risk facing watershed species.
- Humans! is all about us, detailing how the watershed has been the foundation of our economy for over a century and a half. Stories touch on the impact of our actions, both good and bad.
- In Stewardship and Sustainability we learn how to be stewards and the work being done by so many to ensure the watershed’s continued good health.
Life underwater spectacularly comes alive in an interactive Virtual Aquarium showcasing what we typically can’t see under the surface.

The second Anxiety Warrior Project Symposium happened on April 8 at the Bracebridge Sportsplex. This year's event saw more people and contributors come through the doors.
Huntsville Public Library expands to Port Sydney
The Huntsville Public Library has expanded services to Port Sydney. The goal is to offer residents, of that community, more opportunities to use library services. The pilot project kicked off on April 9, with a visit from Councillor Jason Fitzgerald.
Marching For Veterans sends gifts to soldiers in Latvia
Volunteers including MP Tony Clement, gathered at Clement's office in Huntsville on April 12 to put together care packages for Canadian soldiers based in Latvia. Residents poured in throughout the day to donate items.
