JFE Shoji Canada CEO Ron Harper Talks Tariffs
JFE Shoji Canada is a Burlington based company that is the largest supplier of steel components for electrical transformers which distributes their goods in Canada, the US and Mexico. Jason Agnew spoke with CEO Ron Harper about how tariffs could impact logistics, supply chains and the impact on local manufacturing – both directly due to the tariffs, and the ripple effects tariffs would create.
Larry La Gamba's Confidence Bootcamp
Inter-personal skills that were a natural part of life in previous generations – ones that many may have taken for granted - are not as natural today. This is why a local entrepreneur is working with a group of teens. Larry La Gamba hopes to get them off their devices to work on building confidence communicating in-person, instead of electronically, during a "confidence bootcamp".
The Children's Aid Foundation of Halton's 35th Anniversary Open House
The Children's Aid Foundation of Halton marked its 35th anniversary with a call for more partnerships to help vulnerable children. Devan Murugan takes a closer at how the fundraising group is making a difference.
Getting to Know New Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Joseph Racinsky
Ted Arnott has been a fixture in Halton Hills for 35 years, however it was October of last year that the longtime MPP announced he would not be seeking re-election, and thus the search began for the a new candidate to fill his seat. Among the candidates vying for the role were two young Halton Hills councillors. Ward 1's Alex Hilson running for the Ontario Liberal Party, and ward 2 councillor Joseph Racinsky representing the Progressive Conservatives. With the momentum of Doug Ford's re-election, Joseph Racinsky was successful in his election bid. Earlier this week Jason Agnew had the chance to chat with the newly elected MPP and started by asking about his rollercoaster political ride and recent election win.
Glen Eden Ski Resort's Track3 Adaptive Sports Program
It's starting to feel like spring, but it's been quite the ski season this winter... Despite the plentiful amounts of snow, for many kids with disabilities, a skiing experience could seem impossible. But at Glen Eden Ski Resort, the Ontario Track3 Adaptive Sports Association is helping children defy expectations and discover their full potential, one turn at a time.
Halton Hills Mayor Ann Lawlor on the Olde Hide House Closure
It was late last year that we found out the Olde Hide House would be closing it's doors, but the town of Halton Hills wanted to ensure this piece of it's history remained and thus want to have the building be designated as a heritage property, however the owners of the property are now challenging this. Jason Agnew spoke with Mayor Ann Lawlor to get the latest.
The Bronte Creek Maple Syrup Festival
Maple syrup isn't just a sweet treat, it's part of Ontario's rich history and tradition. The Bronte Creek Maple Syrup Festival is back all month, continuing the tradition beloved by many. Ainsley Soeterik has the story.
National Funeral Director Recognition Day with Smith's Funeral Home
Funeral directors provide an essential service in our community. They are there every step of the way to help loved ones after a death, from taking care of the body, to planning the funeral itself, to guiding them through legal paperwork. Today is National Funeral Director Recognition Day. Nikki Wesley asked local funeral director, Sarah Sunnucks how she would describe her position in a single sentence.
Dr. Galange of Halton Region Public Health Tells us How to Handle Measles Symptoms
Yesterday on Halton News we presented a story in which Dr. Galange outlined how much more prevalent the measles are here in Ontario this year compared to previous years, and the importance of prevention through vaccine. Today the focus is on what to do if you or your child are showing signs of this extremely contagious condition. Jessica Kaitting reports.
Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward Discusses her Trip to Washington
To our daily tariff talk now, last week as Jason Agnew spoke with Marianne Meed Ward, the Burlington Mayor was ready to get on a plane and head to Washington in hopes of speaking with US officials. Jason spoke with the Mayor this afternoon and got her thoughts on the trip.
Oakville Mayor Rob Burton on the New Potential Protest By-law
The town of Oakville is seeking residents input on a new by-law that would ban protests near vulnerable social infrastructure such as places of worship, schools and hospitals. This was one of the topics in Jason Agnew's monthly chat with Oakville Mayor Rob Burton, and while Jason fully agrees with the potential by-law sentiment, he presented to the mayor a question: if a protest is told where to protest, doesn't it cease to be a protest?
Darling Home for Kids & Maverick's Donuts Fundraiser
A first of its kind fundraiser is wrapping up in Milton. Over the past week the Darling Home for Kids and the Milton location of Maverick's Donuts company combined resources to raise money for the home. As part of the appeal, a 15-year old who uses the home's services, was provided the opportunity to design and decorate his own donut.
