Coming off the federal election Halton Hills is now a part of two ridings. MP Michael Chong was re-elected in Wellington - Halton Hills, and MP Parm Gill was successful in winning the new riding of Milton West - Halton Hills South. In Jason Agnew's monthly check in with Halton Hills Mayor Ann Lawlor he asked how having two Conservative MP's in the midst of a Liberal government will affect the town.

It's National Volunteer Week and here in Halton we are certainly blessed with an abundance of caring and committed volunteers. While there are so many individuals worthy of special recognition, today the focus was on these volunteers from various nonprofits, charities and grassroots organizations in Burlington & Oakville. Jessica Kaitting reports.

This past weekend Trees for Life arrived on the scene at Area 8 Conservation Area in Milton to plant 2,300 native trees and shrubs. Videographer Craig Mcnichol helps us learn a little more about the event and the organization behind it.

The Wellington-Halton Hills riding is a conservative strong hold, so MP Michael Chong had another dominant victory last night, and reporter Doug Glazebrook had great access to one of the stars of the conservative party.

Oakville West was indeed the wild, wild west for last night's election with MP Pam Damoff stepping down, there was no incumbent. Two new candidates were featured on the ballot for the Conservatives and Liberal party putting the riding well within reach for either. But ultimately the region went the way of the country with a Liberal victory, and Oakville welcomes in MP-elect Sima Acan with 52.7 percent of the vote. Nikki Wesley was there to capture the excitement of this first time winner.

To North Halton now, in the new riding of Burlington-North Milton-West... this is where we find Milton incumbent Adam Van Koeverden. Adam has run in the Milton riding twice, and both times managed over 50% of the vote... and thus history repeated last night, over 50% and another victory. Devan Murugan reports.

Let's take a look at the Burlington riding, where it was a dominant win for incumbent Liberal Karina Gould.

In Oakville 16 Mile Creek became the new boundary division of the town. The Oakville East riding was hotly contested between incumbent Anita Anand and Conservative candidate Ron Chhinzer. The former Toronto Police investigator seemed to cut through with his tough on crime stance but ultimately, the experience of Anita Anand led her to another victory. Jessica Kaitting was there to capture MP Anand's victory.

With the League1 Ontario season now entering it's second week -- the Burlington Bayhawks women will finally get their chance to make their debut. Meanwhile the men are preparing for a massive early season test against Simcoe County Rovers. Let's hear what the coaches have to say leading into the weekend.

Ontario boasts a wide array of career opportunities in the skilled trades and technologies. Within this diverse landscape, the government has officially designated 144 occupations as skilled trades, covering industries such as mechanical, electrical, automotive and manufacturing, among others. Skills Ontario is a government funded organization dedicated to promoting skilled trades and technologies in Ontario.  Jason Agnew spoke with CEO Ian Howcroft and asked if advancements in technology has allowed the government to broaden the definition of what is designated as a skilled trade.

Ask Catherine Edwards what she loves most, and she won't hesitate: birds. But it's not just her hobby -- it's her way into a much bigger job. In Halton Hills, she's helping the town put nature on equal footing with the infrastructure we usually think of first. And now, the town is asking residents to weigh in on what green spaces should look like in the years ahead.
