St James Church presents “Advent to Christmas: a candlelight service of readings and music” on Sunday 8 December at 4:30pm. A selection of seasonal hymns will be sung, the choir will sing anthems by Kingston composer Mark Sirett and Steve Anderson, directed by Michael Capon, and Margaret Ford will play a piano solo.

The service symbolizes the journey from Advent to Christmas, from the Old Testament to the New, from darkness to light. The readings and music will explore the themes of creation and re-creation in the context of ancient prophecies, the birth of Christ, and visions for the future.

This service is provided to support people who may find the holidays

difficult for reasons of grief and loss or anything that makes it hard.

All are welcome.

St James Church will host a "Longest Night" service on Sunday 22 December at 5pm for those experiencing grief, loss, or hardship during the Christmas season. The service is an opportunity to acknowledge losses experienced, to grieve, and with God’s grace to receive consolation, hope, and the light of Christ amid darkness. Holiday festivities usually emphasize joy and cheer, leaving little room for grief and pain, so for some this season can be trying and difficult. Christ suffered for us once on the cross and he suffers with us in sorrow. “Come unto me, all who are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28.
