Dominion Boulevard will be closed between E.C. Row Expressway and Northwood Street for sewer work, road construction and hydro pole relocation.  Northwood Street will also be closed from Longfellow Avenue to McKay Avenue beginning Wednesday, May 6 for 7 weeks.

Southbound Ojibway Parkway will have lane restrictions between G.N. Booth Drive and E.C. Row Expressway for manhole repair work from 8am on Tuesday, May 5, until 5pm on Wednesday, May 6.

The Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association (DWBIA) is pleased to announce that its Farmers Market will open on Saturday May 30 at 8am. Celebrating its fifth season on Pelissier Street and Maiden Lane, the Farmers Market is home to over 40 produce, food and artisanal vendors. The Market is a rain or shine event that runs in the heart of the city every Saturday through to October 31, from 8am-1pm.

In light of COVID-19, the Downtown Windsor Farmers Market is working closely with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit and Farmers Market Ontario to ensure that social distancing measures and safety protocols are in place when the market opens.

Market Manager, Steve Green, who works in the healthcare sector, is especially cognizant of the need to implement full social distancing measures and a phased approach. Some of the measures will include:

Phase 1:

• Limited to food vendors providing farm produce and products until such time as the Province opens non-food related businesses
• Physical distancing measures at entry and exit points and between vendor booths, vendors and visitors
• Division of site and one-way traffic flow in each direction
• Hand-wash stations
• Two operators per booth – one to handle produce/product and the other to handle payments
• Complying with provincial orders on the number of customers accessing the site at any given time
• Non-touch lined waste disposal receptacles

“Farmers Markets are deemed an essential service,” said Steve Green, Market Manager. “Vendors will only be selling farm-to-table produce and products and, until further notice, there will be no entertainment, Kids Korner, Chef Demos and piazza. In addition, we will be advocating a “shop – don’t stop” policy.”

Emergency Preparedness Week (EP Week) is a federal initiative that promotes emergency preparedness across Canada, and this year it runs from May 3-9.

In light of the current pandemic and the very real threat of flooding in areas of Windsor’s east end, this is a good time to remind and encourage all residents to stay informed by signing up for the City of Windsor’s new public alerting system, Windsor Alerts.

During a major crisis such as COVID-19 and severe weather events such as flooding, City of Windsor officials will send event updates, warnings and instructions directly to you on any of your electronic devices. Non-residents working in Windsor are also encouraged to sign up using their work address.

Knowing our community’s unique risks, being prepared with an emergency plan (that includes Windsor Alerts) and having an emergency kit ready will help to ensure you and your family are prepared.
