Unveiling of Commemorative Plaque to Admiral Sir Charles Kingsmill

Portland on the Rideau Historical Society (PRHS) is proud to announce and invite everyone to the unveiling of this plaque alongside the naval mast and flags in Portland where nearby at a local cemetery the 'Father of the Canadian Navy' is buried.
The unveiling will take place on Saturday 24 August, and guests are asked to arrive at 10h30 for the official commencement at 11h00 in Hanna Park, Portland. The adjacent Portland Community Hall will be open offering light snacks and refreshments after the ceremony.
Invitees include:
- Senior Officer of the Royal Canadian Navy - to unveil the plaque with Portland's Admiral Sir Charles Kingsmill in 1910 dress naval uniform
- Navy League of Canada Kingsmill Corps from HMS Carleton Ottawa
- Sea Cadets of Canada
- Members of the Kingsmill family (if possible)
- Local MP, MPP, Mayor of Rideau Lakes Township
- Ontario Historical Society representative
Members of the public are encouraged to attend. The event will be held rain or shine. Shuttle visits to the Kingsmill family gravesite can be arranged following the unveiling ceremony. Press coverage will be arranged for the event including local print and radio media.
