On Saturday Sep. 15 St. Paul's United in Perth will hold an open house to officially launch its new creative community hub. This is a renovated space for both worship and community use.

After many months of planning, major renovations and a half million dollar
investment in Perth’s  St. Paul’s United Church Creative Community HUB Project, the
council  and the congregation are pleased to share the results with the community.
An open house is planned for Saturday the 15th from 1-4 p.m. and a celebratory worship
service on Sunday, September 16th at 10:00 a.m.
Numerous changes have taken place, with a goal of making St. Paul’s a more accessibly
friendly church.  The entrance off D’Arcy Street has been upgraded, including a self-operated
three level lift, for those with mobility issues to enter and have easy access to the sanctuary,
the downstairs hall, the administrative offices and a new universal washroom.  In the
sanctuary, a new sound system has been installed with hearing assist devices available.  A
12’x12’screen will help with better visuals during worship services and other events.  To help
with climate comfort, air conditioning is in place.
In addition to these upgrades, the organ has been refurbished, the stain glass windows have
been repaired, including opening up a portion of the upper stained glass windows to allow
natural light in, the sanctuary has been painted, and three new washrooms have been added.
Rev Gerry Kerr says: “These upgrades to St. Paul’s will enhance our ability to grow into our
own sense of identity as a spiritual hub in the community for creativity, discovery and
growth.”
Bob Sneyd, chair of the project, says “Re-imagining and re-designing this heritage space -
enhanced by state-of-the-art audio and visual technologies - provides a versatile venue for a
wide range of expression through worship, the performing arts, as well as a forum for
educational pursuits and public discourse.”

Near North Voices – North Bay’s University-Community Choir – is pleased to announce their 12th season of choral innovation in North Bay! Established in 2007 as an advanced choir on the Nipissing University Campus, their broad repertoire is focused on art (‘classical’) – much of it contemporary, and has included a number of Canadian and Northern Ontario premieres. Their principal project for this season will be a performance of Handel’s oratorio The Messiah with guest soloists and members of the North Bay Symphony Orchestra.

Weekly rehearsals begin on Wednesday, September 5 and run to early April. Membership is open to students, faculty and staff at Nipissing University and Canadore College, and to adults and high school students from North Bay and area and beyond. Near North Voices offers Student Choral Scholarships for qualified high school students who, over the course of the season, demonstrate substantial musical growth and an exemplary contribution to the ensemble.

Near North Voices’ first rehearsal is on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, in F210 off the front lobby of Nipissing University. Paid parking is available in the central Visitor’s Lot beside the library. Meet-and-greet and orientation with refreshments begin at 6:00 p.m. and the rehearsal starts at 7:00 p.m. New members are welcome! Some previous choir experience and music reading is helpful, but not required if you are motivated and enthusiastic! A brief pitching and voice placement check will be available for singers who are new to the ensemble.

Everyone is invited to bring a pencil, a water bottle, and a sense of humour.

The LYNNeS (Lynn Miles / Lynne Hanson) bring their sweet harmonies and raucous patter to the Perth Tea Room (Perth Restaurant) on SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 30th - 7pm.

A portion of the proceeds will go to Lanark County Interval House, an excellent cause for all they do to support women and children in need.

BOOK EARLY AS ALREADY SELLING QUICKLY ... See you there....

A little more to pique your interest ...

As many people have stopped me on the street to say how much they enjoyed The LYNNeS at Stewart Park Festival in July, its wonderful to be able to bring these two seasoned musicians back so soon.

With four Canadian Folk Music Awards and a Juno, Lynn Miles blends her sweet voice together with multi-award winning Lynne Hanson, creating a complimentary mix, fusing tight vocal harmonies with hauntingly gritty lyrics, satisfying to all who’ve heard them throughout their recent tours of North America and Europe. Throw in their witty patter between songs and it’s easy to see why Mike Davies of UK – folking.com stated "Individually, both LYNNeS are formidable forces in contemporary country, together they just might be unstoppable.". I’ve always enjoyed both these ladies individual performances and, having heard their blended voices, I can’t wait to hear a full evening. They’re currently showcasing their new album, ‘Heartbreak Song for the Radio’.

UPCOMING SHOWS (mark your calendars now )

Sunday October 28th - one of Canada's true Troubadours - Scott Cook.
