Tri-County Literacy Council invites individuals wishing to make a meaning contribution to our community, to register for an upcoming Tutor Training workshop.  In this 2-day workshop (October 11 and 18th, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.), volunteers learn how to tutor adults with basic literacy needs.  Topics include:

  • characteristics of the adult learner
  • assessing learner needs
  • understanding the Learner's Training Plan Supplement
  • teaching strategies

The workshop is interactive and open to persons with the ability to train others.  A charge of $35.00 (tax-deductible) applies for training materials.   Registration and payment are required in advance.  To register call 613-932-7161.

Need to build confidence?  Want to set goals for the future?  Tri-County Literacy is offering a new 4-week training titled "Choices" starting on October 15, 2018. In this  program, students will focus on the essential skills needed to be successful in work and home.  Topics include:

  • Assertiveness
  • Goal Setting
  • Budgeting
  • Attitude/Motivation
  • Passion
  • Career Exploration
  • Guest Speakers

The curriculum was developed by Tri-County Literacy Council.  The training is suitable for a variety of learners including those planning to enter the school environment or work world after a prolonged absence.  Strength your Essential Skills of working with others and oral communication.  Classes will run Monday to Thursday 9-11:30 a.m., starting Monday, October 15, 2018.  To register call Tri-County Literacy Council at 613-932-7161.
