Community Event - Smiths Falls/Perth/North Grenville - Get the Facts on Radon - April 1, 7 pm, Perth Pool
Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in Canada. Testing your home for elevated radon gas levels is the only way to know for sure if you should be taking steps to reduce your exposure.
Area residents are invited to “Get the Facts on Radon” this Monday, April 1st at 7 p.m. in the meeting room at the Perth Community Pool. Learn about this gas, how to test for it, and how to protect your family at this free presentation.
Radon is an invisible, odourless gas that can accumulate in people’s homes. Elevated radon levels have been detected in homes in every region of Canada; the only way to know for sure is to test for it. It doesn’t matter if your house is old or new, tightly sealed or drafty, with a basement or not. Fortunately, there are simple meters available to test for radon, and proven reasonably priced methods to address it.
Guest speakers at this event with be Mainul Husain, Health Canada Regional Radiation Specialist and Bob Wood, a Radiation Mitigation Specialist with Mr. Radon. A representative for the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Unit will also be on hand.
Admission is free and all are welcome. There will be plenty of time for questions following the presentations. Attendees will have the opportunity to win a Radonova long term home radon test kit with last fees included. The Perth Pool is located at 3 Sunset Blvd.
This evening was organized by the OLA (Otty Lake Association) primarily for its members, but will be of interest to any home or cottage owner. Please email ola@ottylakeassociation.ca if you require further information.
