Some summer nights are so hot, even the wind can’t be bothered to move. What better time to head to the park with family and neighbours for a cooling fire truck sprinkler run, a visit with Sparky and a chance to meet Windsor Fire and Rescue Services and Fire Prevention staff for truck tours and fire safety information. 

Windsor Fire & Rescue Services (WFRS) will be hosting a summer-long tradition at a different park in all ten wards, each Thursday from 5:30-7:30 pm. Event details, including dates and park locations will be posted to WFRS’ website, www.windsorfire.com, and follow us on Twitter @WindsorFire1 for up-to-the-moment photos and information!

Residents have the chance to go over some lifesaving tips and reminders while getting acquainted with WFRS staff. Kids can check out the fire trucks, participate in hand-on activities, and ask any fire safety questions. The firefighters will be grilling hotdogs and providing water and orange drink which are free to those who attend on a first come, first serve basis.

We have many community partners on board this year who saw it as an exciting opportunity. Our community partners joining us this year are:  Belfor Property Restoration, Unifor 444, Stiemar Bread Co., Dowler Karn, Pro Trades, SBT Construction, Champion Paper, Culligan Water, Farron’s Meats, McDonald’s Canada (Wyandotte & Goyeau).

The Town of Essex will reveal its newest accessibility feature at Colchester Beach on Wednesday, June 27 at 1:00pm.

Members of the media and local community are invited to join dignitaries for the unveiling of the brand new Mobi Mats and commemorative plaque at the beach, located at 100 Jackson Street in Colchester Centre.

The Mobi Mats are rollout semi-rigid surfaces designed to provide beach access for wheelchairs, strollers, and pedestrians with mobility issues. The mats are part of a suite of new accessibility features recently added at Colchester Beach, Harbour, and Community Centre.

The addition of Mobi Mats was made possible through the generous donation of the Watsa family, in memory of David Watsa. David was a long-time and dedicated member of the Colchester Harbour Committee.

The unveiling event will include speeches from Essex Town Council, a member of the Accessibility Advisory Committee, as well as the Watsa family.

Myles is a charming young boy with Down Syndrome. Everyone in the Riverside community knows Myles because he has had respite opportunities where he can go out into the community and meet new people, develop new skills and make friends.

Every year Riverside Minor Baseball and Family Respite Services come together for a community event to ensure that children with disabilities can have opportunities just like their peers. This year our goal is to ensure that children with disabilities can play baseball just like everyone else, on the soon to be Miracle League!

Event: Free Family Outdoor Movie Night!

“We look forward to having a movie night for Family Respite Services because they provide important services to children in our community”, said Cindy Nantais, Myles mom and Riverside Baseball 100 Inning Game Organizer.

Alexandria Fischer (Community Relations Coordinator at Family Respite Services) explains, “Riverside Minor Baseball gets it, they are responding to a community need, so that ALL children belong. Family Respite Services vision is to ensure Windsor/Essex is a community where Families are STRONG and ALL children belong. Riverside Minor Baseball is making our vision come alive!”

Saturday, June 23, 9-10pm at Riverside Baseball Park, 6865 Ontario St. Film, The Sandlot Movie. FREE Event for all ages! The movie night is part of an all-day community event for the new Farrow Riverside Miracle Park at Riverside Baseball park on June 23 including baseball games (10am-10pm) and car show (10am-3pm)

Award-winning rock trio, Rose Cora Perry & The Truth Untold, is scheduled to perform as special guests as a part of this year's Belle River Sunsplash Festival on July 13, 6pm at the Lakeview Park Ampitheatre.
