Living life to the fullest may be easier for our communities most vulnerable now that Windsor Public Library is offering FREE Life & Living Well sessions

Anyone who believes in the concepts of being happy, neighbours helping neighbours, assisting others to be happy and being in charge of ones’ own life is being encouraged to register now for Life & Living Well sessions which begin this July at local public libraries.

In a social atmosphere participants are guided by a facilitator to develop their own life-long care plan that can be shared with loved ones, friends, and health care providers. Each session is 1.5 hours long and residents are asked to sign up for 4 consecutive sessions at the same location. What this does for citizens is it helps improve their lives and supports them to get the help they need when they need it!

Sessions are as follows: For Riverside Branch: Mondays - July 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th, for 2:30-4:00.

For Forest Glade Branch: Thursdays - July 12th, 19th, 26th, and August 2nd, for 10:30-12:00.

For Sandwich Branch: Wednesdays – August 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th, for 4:30-6:00.

The Welcome Centre food bank shelves are currently quite bare and in need of replenishing.  Every month, more than 200 individuals access our Food Bank. In light of the research conducted by the Advocacy group Campaign 2000 revealing that Windsor-West has one of the highest rates on child poverty in the country and knowing our shelves are nearly bare, it is more important than ever to highlight that our Food Bank serves as an essential service to those children experiencing poverty. Not only are we accepting donations from individuals in our community, we are also looking for businesses to come on board as a monthly Food Bank Sponsor. Sponsorship of the Welcome Centre Shelter Food Bank presents a unique opportunity for local companies and businesses to get involved and promote their commitment to the Windsor-Essex community. Businesses pick their month of choice (June, July, August, September, October, November) and collect goods that are in high demand the entire month and when the month finishes, they bring the items to our Food Bank.

Members of the public are invited to join the Town of Essex for its official ribbon cutting at the brand new Essex Centre Splash Pad on Tuesday, June 26 at 1:30 pm.

The splash pad, which features a fun sports theme, will help keep local families and their kids cool through hot summer months for years to come.

“With splash pads in Harrow and Colchester, we are very excited to provide this amenity to the residents of Essex Centre,” said Doug Sweet, Director of Community Services. “The splash pad was a priority project identified by the community in the 2015 Recreation Master Plan, and we’re happy to deliver.”

The grand opening event will feature brief speeches and a ribbon cutting. After the ribbon cutting, the splash pad will be ready to enjoy, operating seven days per week until the end of August.

The splash pad is part of the Essex Centre Sports Complex, located at 60 Fairview Avenue W., Essex Centre.
