On June 20 at the Fogolar Furlan Club, the Brain Injury Association of Windsor & Essex County (BIAWE) will host its sixth annual conference, “Standards for Post-Concussion Care: The Right Care, at the Right Time, with the Right Provider”. This full-day workshop is geared towards health care providers and non-treatment professionals who provide post-concussive services and work in rehabilitation with individuals with a brain injury. Dr. Diana Velikonja, neuropsychologist and member of the Ontario Neurotrauma foundation (ONF) committee for Acquired Brain Injury, will be the keynote speaker. She will review the ONF Standards for Post-Concussion Care and provide an update on the ONF Guidelines for Management of Concussion/Mild Traumatic Brain Injury & Persistent Symptoms. A panel of local experts, Diane Bradford (WRH Trauma Services Manager), Dr. Abdalhakim Mustafa (Neurologist), Ann Marie Keough (Physiotherapist at Enable Neurological Rehabilitation), Patricia Fleet (Occupational Therapist at Bayshore Rehabilitation), and Dr. Stewart Plotnick (Psychologist at Plotnick & Assoc.) will discuss the challenges of local implementation of these standards.
