Community Event - Smiths Falls/Perth/North Grenville - RCMP Musical Ride in Smiths Falls
Join us in welcoming the RCMP Musical Ride to Smiths Falls! On Sunday, May 27th, residents and visitors are invited to come out to see the world-renowned troop of 32 horses and riders perform at Lower Reach Park. Every year, the Musical Ride brings its show to communities across the country to perform a variety of figures and drills choreographed to music. The show provides the public with an opportunity to experience the heritage and traditions of the RCMP and raise funds for local charities across Canada.
The Musical Ride was developed in 1876 by early members of the North-West Mounted Police to display their riding abilities and entertain local communities. The first recorded public display of the Musical Ride was in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1901. This year, the Musical Ride is touring across Canada in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary.
Admission to this event will be by donation. Proceeds from this event will go to support the Heritage House Museum in their efforts of bringing new programs like this to the community. More details to come. The Heritage House Museum first applied for to the RCMP Musical Ride program in 2011 with the assistance of one of the Museum’s founders, Joyce Brennan. The Museum is excited that through Joyce’s efforts the community will have the opportunity to experience this truly unique Canadian experience.
Opening performances will begin at 2:00 p..m.. The Musical Ride performance will begin at 3:00 p.m. Tiered bleacher seating will be available for up to 800 guests, seating will be first come first serve. A designated area will also be available for accessibility and lawn chairs. The event runs rain or shine! You don’t want to miss out.
