Herman Academy formally known as W.F. Herman Secondary School officially marks its 60th year in our community in 2018. Unlike many high schools who celebrate reunions yearly, Herman marks each decade with a Reunion Gathering. This year’s Herman Alumni Volunteer Committee have put together a weekend program including a Welcoming Night Party at Charly’s Brew Pub on Friday evening, an Open House on Saturday afternoon at the school, a large casual Pub Style Reunion Gathering at the Caboto Club on Saturday evening and a 9 Hole Golf Scramble on Sunday afternoon. Windsor Star Raise-a-Reader program is asking the community to donate gently used and new books for the 9th annual Raise-a-Reader Book Sale. Donated books can be dropped off from April 2-22 to Canadian Tire Stores in Windsor, Amherstburg, Essex and Leamington. Fiction and non-fiction books are welcome. New and gently used children’s books are in great demand. Encyclopaedias, magazines, textbooks, Reader's Digest and National Geographic cannot be accepted.

The book sale takes place April 28, 29 and May 5 at Windsor Crossing. Windsor Star Raise-a-Reader campaign is part of the award-winning national fundraising initiative of the Postmedia Foundation. It is a unique philanthropic program that increases awareness and raises money and other resources in support of family literacy programs. One hundred percent of funds raised in Windsor and Essex County stay in the community. Financial donations can be made by visiting www.raiseareader.com or call 1-866-637-READ (7323). Since its inception in 2002, more than $791,000 has been raised in Windsor-Essex for local literacy initiatives by the program. Windsor Star Raise-a-Reader program is proudly presented by St. Clair College and St. Clair College Alumni Association and sponsored by Libro Credit Union, Liuna Bluesfest and the Windsor Spitfires.

This is a Niagara Military Museum event that has been designed, developed and organized by The History Lab. The THL works with community, students, scolars to make History together.
