Almost everyone has taken trips that were nothing like the travel brochure. Actress/singer Catherine Clarkson and her husband spent a week in Puerto Vallarta that went so horribly wrong, she wrote a comedy show about it. Called Mr. & Miss Adventure, the World Premiere of her one-woman show was unleashed in Mexico to a sold-out audience last year, and in two weeks she’ll perform the Canadian Premiere in Thorold.
The special dinner theatre show is being presented by Thorold Community Theatre and Trinity United Church as a fundraiser for the church on Friday, June 15 and Saturday, June 16 at Trinity’s Community Hall. The “misadventure” happened about five years ago, she said, during a trip that turned into “a series of unfortunate events. The things that happened to us, you wouldn’t believe.”
Appropriately, the show will accompany a catered Mexican-themed dinner by Comfort Kitchen, which Colbert guarantees is “not spicy.” The menu includes: mild salsa and nacho chips, chicken and lime soup, black bean quesadilla, Mexican stuffed pork loin with mild southwest seasoning, stuffed with onion, baby spinach and garlic, mild Mexican red rice and peas and Mexican chocolate brownie served with vanilla ice cream.
There will be a cash bar, reserved seating, a 50/50 draw, and door prizes. Tickets cost $40 per person.
To order tickets: e-mail eswart@cogeco.ca or call 905-682-5506.

The Hastings County Historical Society invites everyone to attend the unveiling of a bronze historical plaque commemorating the establishment of Marmora as Ontario's first Irontown in 1821, and the miners who came from around the word and from many surrounding areas to work in very dangerous conditions. The brave and hardworking Marmora miners contributed to the development of many mining hamlets in the area.
The Hastings County Historical Society invites everyone to attend the unveiling of the sixth of seven bronze historical plaques to be dedicated throughout Hastings County over the summer of 2018. This plaque commemorates the central role that James Lazier's various mills (woolen, grist & lumber) built in the 1840's on the banks of the Salmon River, had on the development of the village of Lonsdale. The village contributed significantly to the development of Tyendinaga Township and due to its well preserved limestone buildings is a picturesque community even today.
Hastings County Historical Society invites everyone to attend the unveiling of the fifth of seven bronze historical plaques to be dedicated throughout Hastings County this summer. This plaque celebrates the important role that Donald MacKenzie's various mills (sawmill, grist mill and store) beside Deer Creek had on the development of the village of Madoc from the early 1830's.
