Kingston’s preeminent festival of comics, gaming, sci-fi, fantasy, and other exciting forms of fandom, King Con, returns to the city on Saturday, March 10, and Sunday, March 11. Presented by Kingston Frontenac Public Library, Minotaur Games and Gifts, and Kingston Gaming Nexus, King Con is your annual chance to geek out over cool vendors, guest speakers, tabletop gaming, cosplay, children’s programming, and other fantastic activities. This year, the King Con partners have banded together to present the popular annual event at Sydenham Street United Church (82 Sydenham St.) while the Central library branch remains under renovation.

King Con 2018 will offer an exciting variety of events created to appeal to people of all ages and interests. This year the event will feature its traditional vendors’ marketplace with local artists, artisans, and invited guests, as well as sword fighting and Irish stick fighting demonstrations by local groups. On Saturday morning, KFPL will present a superhero-themed version of its popular Family Storytime program, and special guest J. Torres will host a live comics reading for children.  If you like tabletop games, sign up for one of the games we’re hosting, or try your luck at the all-day Boardgame Blitz (a global event that originated at King Con!).  Later in the day, attendees are invited to enjoy a panel discussion on the history of cosplay, a Chthulu magican, and a talk about LGBTQ issues in comics by our other special guest, Andrew Wheeler. On Saturday evening, cheer for the spectacular costumes that locals have made for Kingston’s first-ever cosplay contest!  On Sunday the fun continues with a drawing workshop, an introduction to Dungeons & Dragons, a talk about the year’s best anime, and much more.  There’s just too much programming to list… and Kingston’s Improbable Escapes will be on site both days hosting a haunted escape room!  The best thing about King Con is that it’s all FREE.  So come on out and indulge your geeky side!
