Chatham’s downtown gallery ARTspace will open a new exhibition called “Between the Lines” by local artist Tom Savage on Friday, October 20 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Savage’s highly graphic paintings invoke the majesty and prowess of nature, while literally framing the subjects into boxes – both an aesthetic decision and a nod to the ways in which humans have confined and reduced once thriving ecosystems. The artist says of his own work “[the] paintings feature animal species that have been affected by the lies of humans, these are lies told between the lines for personal gain.” In contrast, many of the works highlight the playful and social aspects of mammals and how we identify with them as people.
The exhibition will also feature a collaborative window installation, using recycled materials, by artists Becky Fixter and Tom Savage.
All are welcome to attend the free and inclusive reception. Come downtown and help celebrate the wonderful artistic talent of Chatham-Kent!
ARTspace is open Tuesday through Saturday 12:00pm-5:00pm and is located at 165 ½ King Street West in Historic Downtown Chatham. Admission is always by donation. For more information visit www.artspacechathamkent.com
