Five Caribbean rums take centre stage at a Caribbean Rum Tasting event hosted by the Kingston Symphony on Monday, April 15, 2024 at the Renaissance Supper Club. This curated collection includes the superb Mount Gay Port Cask Expression from Barbados (a limited production rum) and other delicious rums from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Jamaica. An array of tapas will accompany the tasting. Additional rums will be raffled and auctioned. The tasting will be led by rum collector Patrick St-Georges. Get your tickets today! Dr. David Novog PhD, McMaster University Professor and Industrial Research Chair in Nuclear Safety for the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) will be the featured speaker at the next Canadian Club of Halton dinner speaker event.  Co-Director of McMaster Institute for Energy Studies, Dr. Novog is a leading expert on nuclear safety, emergency preparedness and advanced reactor designs with almost 30 years of experience in the nuclear industry and academia.  He works with leading teams from around the world through various forums including the Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development as well as the International Atomic Energy Agency. Novog has provided input to Provincial and Federal Governments on nuclear energy issues and continues to provide a resource for communities and government on nuclear energy.  The April 18th evening at the Oakville Conference Centre includes a 3-course dinner and speaker presentation.  $60.00/member and $70.00/non-member. Bike Niagara will be providing a free bicycle safety course geared to adults who would like to brush up on their bicycle riding skills. Gardeners of Burlington presents guest speaker Margaret Larson: “Magnificent Monarchs”. Please come and join a friendly group of amateur gardeners interested in learning more about all aspects of gardening. Margaret Larson is a conservationist who works to increase the population of monarch butterflies. She collects monarch butterfly eggs from milkweed plants, watches over the caterpillars as they develop and then releases them back into the wild when they emerge from their cocoons as butterflies. Larson also works with volunteers to conserve the milkweed plant, a key source of food for the monarch. She speaks at schools and community centres to educate others about the importance of environmentalism.

Belleville Public Library's Adult Chess Club is for ages 18 and up. The club meets every second Monday (bi-weekly) at 5:30pm. Bring your own chess board or borrow one from the library and meet with fellow chess players for a friendly game.
