Bill Schenck, a 62-year-old native of St. Catharines, has dedicated the past 40 years to building an impressive resume in the world of rowing. His accomplishments have earned him a well-deserved spot in the St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame as a builder. Let’s delve into some of his remarkable contributions:

  1. 1999 World Rowing Championships in St. Catharines:

    • Bill Schenck played a pivotal role in bringing the 1999 world rowing championships to St. Catharines. As a director with St. Catharines World Rowing, he worked tirelessly to elevate the Henley course to FISA Class A standards. The successful bid resulted in a memorable event where Canadian rowers clinched medals on home soil, much to the delight of the hometown crowd.
  2. 2024 World Rowing Championships:

    • Schenck’s passion for rowing administration continues. He is now the co-chair of the bid committee that secured the 2024 world championships for junior, under-23, and senior rowers in non-Olympic events. Hosting such prestigious events not only enhances the venue but also ensures that local rowers train and compete on a world-class facility.
  3. Other Notable Roles:

    • St. Catharines Rowing Club Alumni Association (1980-87): Involved in various capacities, including serving as president.
    • St. Catharines Rowing Club Director (1988): Contributed to the club’s growth and development.
    • Canadian Henley Rowing Corporation (1989-1994): Served as president and played a key role in organizing rowing events.
    • St. Catharines Recreational Rowing League: A founding director.
    • 1993 World University Games: Managed sports and venues in St. Catharines.
    • Toronto Olympic Bid (2000) and Hamilton Commonwealth Games Bid (2010): Prepared data for these bids.
    • Royal Canadian Henley Regatta Commissioner (since 2000): Ensured the success of this prestigious event.
    • 2010 World Masters Games: Acted as a director.
    • 2015 Pan Am Games Bid: Worked on the Golden Horseshoe’s bid and co-chaired the rowing event in St. Catharines.

Bill Schenck’s unwavering commitment to rowing has left an indelible mark on St. Catharines, making him a true builder and advocate for the sport. 🚣‍♂️🌟
