Canadian Legend Stompin’ Tom grew up in an orphanage, travelled throughout Northern Ontario playing the bar circuit, faced naysayers of all sorts, but he eventually found his success in telling the stories of our country. His captivating story is told through this unique tribute to “The Man of the Land” and a true icon in Canadian music.

Featuring his greatest hits, such as Bud the Spud, Tillsonburg, Sudbury Saturday Night, and of course, The Hockey Song.

From The Metropolitan Opera and Cineplex Events, we bring you an encore presentation of Fedora on the big screen at the Capitol.

Umberto Giordano’s exhilarating drama returns to the Met repertory for the first time in 25 years. Packed with memorable melodies, showstopping arias, and explosive confrontations, Fedora requires a cast of thrilling voices to take flight, and the Met’s new production promises to deliver. Soprano Sonya Yoncheva, one of today’s most riveting artists, sings the title role of the 19th-century Russian princess who falls in love with her fiancé’s murderer, Count Loris, sung by star tenor Piotr Beczała. Soprano Rosa Feola is the Countess Olga, Fedora’s confidant, and baritone Lucas Meachem is the diplomat De Siriex, with much-loved Met maestro Marco Armiliato conducting. Director David McVicar delivers a detailed and dramatic staging based around an ingenious fixed set that, like a Russian nesting doll, unfolds to reveal the opera’s three distinctive settings—a palace in St. Petersburg, a fashionable Parisian salon, and a picturesque villa in the Swiss Alps.

From The Metropolitan Opera and Cineplex Events, we bring you an encore presentation of The Hours on the big screen at the Capitol.

Renée Fleming makes her highly anticipated return to the Met in the world-premiere production of Pulitzer Prize–winning composer Kevin Puts’s The Hours, adapted from Michael Cunningham’s acclaimed novel. Inspired by Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway and made a household name by the Oscar-winning 2002 film version starring Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore, and Nicole Kidman, the powerful story concerns three women from different eras who each grapple with their inner demons and their roles in society. The exciting premiere radiates with star power, with Kelli O’Hara and mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato joining Fleming as the opera’s trio of heroines. Phelim McDermott—who most recently wowed Met audiences with his staging of Philip Glass’s Akhnaten—directs this compelling drama, with Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin on the podium to conduct Puts’s poignant and powerful score.

Come join us for an evening of incredible music by one of Kingston’s very own multi-talented artists, Savannah Shea. Savannah will be performing as part of our Music for the Mess Studio events. These events were successful in raising awareness and funds for our creative community in 2018 and 2019. After a three-year pause, we are excited to introduce ‘Music and Sweets’ on April 27, 2023 starting at 7 p.m. at City Christian Centre. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. Savannah is a singer-songwriter, visual artist and multi-instrumentalist. Savannah performs a combination of folk, jazz, pop and blues music and is a pleasure to listen to. Savannah’s music is inspired by the mysteries of nature, love, grief and the universe, and includes writings from the perspective of wondering.

Your ticket ($15) for this event will include a delectable array of sweets, coffee, tea and a chance to win a door prize. The opportunity to bid on amazing pieces of original artwork and purchase tickets for gift baskets are optional. Advance tickets are recommended by emailing The Mess Studio.

All proceeds raised from the event will go towards the ongoing facilitation of The Mess Studio  - a non-profit organization that builds healthy community through the making of art. We are a diverse, inclusive community that invites anyone with an interest in art to come, connect and create.
