The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world's most beloved musical. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," "My Favorite Things," "Do-Re-Mi," "Sixteen Going on Seventeen," “Edelweiss,” and the title number, “The Sound of Music” won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulant who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.

The Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre presents the solo exhibit by Janet Horne-Cozens titled ‘The Power of Water.’ An opening reception will be held on Sunday November 5th from 2pm until 4pm with refreshments and nibbles provided. All are welcome to come view the captivating artworks with the opportunity to meet the artist.

Overview

The exhibit celebrates the mesmerizing allure of water. The artwork invites viewers to immerse themselves in the breathtaking beauty of Ontario's untamed landscapes, where pristine waterfalls, meandering rivers, and tranquil lakes come to life on canvas. This exhibition is a testament to the enduring bond between humanity and the untamed beauty of the Canadian wilderness, offering visitors a chance to connect with nature's most captivating element.

In her work, Janet Horne-Cozens hones in on her deep connection to the beauty of Canada’s waterways. She aims to shed light on the delicate balance between humanity and nature, and the consequences of our actions on these invaluable ecosystems.

Each brushstroke and colour palette the artist employs reflect the ever-evolving stories of water. These visual narratives are meant to be both an homage to the natural world and a stark reminder of its fragility.

Artist Statement

My hope is that this exhibition serves as a catalyst for dialogue, sparking conversations about the urgent need for conservation, sustainable practices, and collective responsibility. Together, we can turn the tide, ensuring that future generations inherit a world where the wilderness waters continue to flow freely and flourish, as they have for millennia.
