BARRY YUEN AND HIS TRIO (along with some friends) will present a live reading of Charles Dickens' classic story, A Christmas Carol. This will be done in the style of an Old Time Radio Programme, with sound effects and some live music accompaniment. These shows are always fun! For those who remember the Golden Age of Radio, this will provide a nostalgic glow. The show will take place at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 263 Victoria Street on Sunday December 11th, at 2:00pm. As a fund raiser for the church, this will be a "pay what you can" event. There will only be one performance, so don't miss it.

One of the biggest changes to the Hutchison House event line up is our popular annual Hogmanay event. Unfortunately despite several options presented, a variety of factors, including ongoing road construction, will once again prevent us from hosting our annual Hogmanay event in person. However, even if you can’t celebrate Hogmanay with us here at the museum, we would like to bring it to you. Hutchison House volunteers will be creating Hogmany meals-to-go with much of the food that we would normally serve here on January first. You must pre-order your meals by December 28, 2022. Meals will be available for curbside pick-up between 12pm and 2pm on January 1, 2023. Meals are $20 and will include: a Scotch egg, tatters and neeps, oatcakes, cheese, a sample of potted salmon, shortbread and clootie dumpling. For an extra $5 you can also get a piece of Haggis.
For more information or to order a Hogmanay meal to go please contact the museum at 705-743-9710 or info@hutchisonhouse.ca.
Come and enjoy a tour of the museum as it is decorated for the holiday season and learn how the Hutchison family would have celebrated this time of year with our Victorian Christmas for Kids event on Saturday December 17 from 12pm to 4pm. There will be timed entry with a maximum of 15 visitors per time slot. Children can make a holiday craft, enjoy some festive treats and participate in several safe Christmas activities. Masks are required while touring the museum and high touch surfaces are cleaned between visitors. Admission is $8 per person, children under 5 are free. Register in advance to ensure a spot. For more information or to reserve your time slot please contact the museum office at 705-743-9710 or email us at info@hutchisonhouse.ca.

If you had to tell someone why Christmas was important to you, what would you say? What stories or songs of the season bring back happy memories for you? Why do they never seem to grow old? This concert will feature not only the concert choir and chamber orchestra, but will also highlight the Bel Canto Children’s Choirs as well as many other performers from the community. From “Twas the Night” to the “Jingle Bells”, this concert will feature some of the most cherished carols from our past and new renditions from today. The highlight will be THE POLAR EXPRESS, featuring the choirs and orchestra.
