Official Dedication of the tri-panel storyboard honouring magician Stewart James (1908-1996) of Courtright, Ontario. Employed as a rural mail carrier who was barely known by his neighbours of Courtright and Moore Township, Stewart was and is still recognized around the world for his contributions to magic. Stewart was an illusionist and the inventor of tricks. In a field where one is considered to be a genius if 100 tricks are invented, Stewart created over 1,000, using mathematical and scientific principles that earned him the reputation of being the "Einstein of magicians". His magic book, published by his friend, Allan Slaight, in 1989, is the largest book on magic that has ever been printed.
Dedication takes place at Courtright Waterfront Park on Saturday, October 15 at 10 a.m.
Heritage St. Clair, the municipal heritage committee of St. Clair Township, invites everyone to attend the dedication of the set of storyboards sponsored by the Slaight Family Foundation and the St. Clair River Trail Committee !

Peterborough Historical Society public discussion. This panel will examine the history of Jackson Park from its industrial origins to an entertainment and recreational park, and on the challenges facing the park today. This promises insights into one of the City's vital assets at a time when the pressures of development underscore the need for sustainable urban greenspaces. The panelists include Robert Clarke, award winning author and resident expert on the movie industry; Terry Hawkins, former Academic Superintendent of the Peterborough County Board of Education and early resident of Bonaccord Street; Karen Carter-Edwards, retired history teacher and local historian; and Richard Scott, retired planner with Parks Canada who worked on the Trent Severn Waterway and the Rouge National Urban Park.
