The Gift of Giving Back Weekend to donate at Fortinos (5111 New St, Burlington)
The Gift of Giving Back (GOGB), founded in 2005, is an opportunity to inspire, support, educate and empower children through local minor athletics associations and school systems to compassionately give back to the communities. The GOGB is the largest community food drive of its kind in Canada, with more than 4.6 million pounds of food raised and a direct community benefit of more than $14 million since its inception. We are making a real difference in the lives of those less fortunate in our community and teaches children the importance of giving back.
As part of our 2024 campaign, various Burlington Barracudas and Eagles hockey teams will be outside of the entrances at the Fortinos (Appleby Line & New St) handing out bags and collecting cash donations. Please help us feed those in need in Halton by filling a bag while you shop for your own groceries.
You may have already seen the iconic blue bags around the city or on your doorstep. The campaign will close on November 20 at Nelson High School.

So what is “The Bowie Lives? www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcjjUehwk7E
“The show was just fantastic! Michael Bell sounded more like Bowie than Bowie! The musicians were stellar and on top of their game. The choreography fit nicely with the delivery. Michael's presentation was right on point... the full house loved the 'call and answer' segments and took part in the Show. And, there were even some audience members that dressed in costume and danced in the aisles!” ~ Pat Porter Radio Personality 4680 Q.
“Saw the show last night in Toronto and was blown away. Was a little apprehensive at first as I have been a Bowie fan since I was a teen and I was concerned the band may not do the songs justice. I was overwhelmingly thrilled at what I heard and saw, from the first note I was hooked. The biggest takeaway is you can tell the lead singer is truly a devoted fan himself. Loved the way you honored David Bowie. Hope to see you in Toronto again real soon!”
What the industry has to say…
“5 Stars! Unbelievable! I could have watched them for two more hours!” says Richard Crouse, CTV News, CP24, NewsTalk1010, and Host of CTV PopLife.
“By far, the best & coolest Bowie Tribute I’ve seen!” says Sam Grosso,of Cadillac Productions.
“As close as it gets!” says MusikMirage.com
They’re all talking about the “The Bowie Lives” A Bowie Spectacular-Canada’s Sensational Tribute to David Bowie! Michael Bell is an award-winning vocalist who channels the sound and styles of David Bowie, and with the help of an all-star band, our multimedia, a theater, and costumes, he has captured the imagination of fans young and old.
Michael discovered Bowie as a teen and performed songs with a number of his early bands. By the 80’s his first theatrical production “ChangesAllBowie” toured the “A circuit” before hanging up his “Ziggy” in the early ’90s. Decades passed. After David’s untimely death on January 10, 2016, Michael’s calling returned; his calling to honor the man who helped shape his life. Together with musical director Michael Beauclerc, they began auditioning players to fill out a band capable of performing some of Rock’s most challenging material. The Bowie Lives bring all hits to the stage; Space Oddity to Lazarus, and everything in between.
The Bowie Lives PRE-SHOW includes the Bowie Bazaar; T-shirts, collectibles, LPs and DVDs, and more. Come dressed as your favorite David Bowie persona or wear your favorite swag and be rewarded! Don’t forget to grab a button!
Michael is also the subject of an upcoming documentary film “Being David Bowie” and an upcoming web series “The Bowie Lives.”
