Particularly this year, we need to pause the excitement and joy of Christmas to remember that this is not always an easy time for people. Held Wednesday, December 15th, both in person at 7pm and online, the “Blue Christmas” worship service creates a sacred space for those who are feeling blue at Christmas. We think of loved ones who have died, family who are no longer part of our life, tenuous or stressful job situations, uncertainties in our future or health concerns that weigh us down. Canon Katherine Morgan creates comforting space for reflection on loss, accepting where we really are and a time to be with the quiet.

St. John’s Anglican Church, Thorold prepares for the coming of the Light with several activities.

People are encouraged to gather, out front of the church, around the Christmas tree on Sunday Dec. 5, 2021, at 4pm for the “Let it Shine” event. This has been a difficult couple of years, and many are looking for places of light in the darkness. You are invited to add an ornament of light and love to the tree. Write on it the name of a loved one you hold dear, someone you have lost, or a prayer you hold in your heart. Everyone in the community is welcome. The event will include a Christmas carol sing, comforting hot chocolate or coffee and enjoying time spent together. By bringing light to our darkness, we also honour light in our lives.
