A NICE INDIAN BOY

Playing Friday, October 10th at 2pm and 7pm!

A Nice Indian Boy is a 2025 American romantic comedy-drama directed by Roshan Sethi. The screenplay, written by Eric Randall, was adapted from Madhuri Shekar’s acclaimed stage play. The film stars Karan Soni as Naveen Gavaskar, a shy Indian-American doctor, and Jonathan Groff as Jay Kurundkar, a free-spirited photographer raised by Indian immigrant parents. Naveen - though accepted by his traditional family - has never fully revealed his truth, until a chance meeting at a Hindu temple leads to romance, awkward introductions to family, and the longing for a grand, Indian wedding. As Jay meets Naveen’s parents (Zarna Garg and Harish Patel) and sister Arundhathi (Sunita Mani), cultural quirks and emotional resistance give way to heartfelt comedy - and a touching celebration of love, identity, and belonging.

The film premiered at South by Southwest in March 2024 and saw a theatrical release in the U.S. on April 4, 2025, through Blue Harbor Entertainment. It's runtime of about 96 minutes.

This film is a must see, not just because it's a delightful rom-com, but because it's able to deliver authentic moments woven throughout laugh-out-loud action. Anchored by the undeniable chemistry of Soni and Groff, with standout performances from Garg and Patel, A Nice Indian Boy invites you into a world where love isn’t about bold declarations, but about small, transformative moments and the courage to belong.

THE LIFE OF CHUCK

Playing Friday, November 14th at 2pm and 7pm!

The Life of Chuck (2024) is a hauntingly beautiful and deeply human fantasy-drama directed and written by Mike Flanagan, based on the novella by Stephen King. Released in the United States in 2025, the film stars Tom Hiddleston as Charles "Chuck" Krantz, alongside a powerhouse ensemble including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Mark Hamill, Jacob Tremblay, and narrated by Nick Offerman.

Told in reverse chronology, the film unfolds over three interconnected acts that trace Chuck’s life backward - from his mysterious death amid a collapsing world, to a surreal dance on a rooftop, and finally to his poignant childhood shaped by love, curiosity, and imagination. Flanagan, best known for his horror work, pivots here toward a genre-defying tale that is more meditative and existential. With its blend of magical realism and heartfelt performances, this film lingers long after the credits roll.

Community Event - Quinte - BOREAL: SONGS FOR THE SNOWY SEASON

Three award-winning singer-songwriters bring seasonal joy...

BOREAL:
SONGS FOR THE SNOWY SEASON

Playing on Saturday, November 22nd at 7pm

Boreal is a rare musical collaboration between three acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriters—Tannis Slimmon, Katherine Wheatley, and Angie Nussey—who come together to form a group greater than the sum of its parts. Each artist brings a distinct musical voice: Katherine’s warm guitar-driven storytelling, Tannis’s earthy folk rooted in mandolin and percussion, and Angie’s emotionally textured keyboard and vocals. One draws from sacred, ethereal sounds, one from velvet-toned folk traditions, and one from the raw, untamed spirit of rock and soul.

Rather than featuring a single frontwoman, Boreal thrives on shared spotlight and mutual creativity. With over 15 solo albums among them, they handpick and reimagine their strongest material through rich, unconventional harmonies and dynamic arrangements. Their performances balance delicate beauty with vocal fireworks, drawing audiences in with emotional depth, humour, and impeccable musicianship.

In the words of four-time Juno Award-winning songwriter David Francey:
“I’ll give you three good reasons for catching Boreal in concert. There are three wonderful writers in this band, and three beautiful voices. That’s two reasons. The third is the magic that happens when these three women combine those wonderful songs and voices on stage. Each brings their own brilliance to the whole. Magical’s the word. I was transported.”

Boreal first came together in 2006 with a shared vision for Songs for the Snowy Season, a winter-themed show that quickly blossomed into an annual touring tradition across Ontario. Their first album, Winter’s Welcome, followed in 2014. In 2019, after founding member Jude Vadala retired, Angie Nussey joined the group, contributing her own distinctive and creative flair.

Their latest release, Winterbirds (March 2025), grew from long-distance collaboration into a powerful creative retreat—three immersive weeks writing and recording at Les Stroud’s home studio near Huntsville, Ontario. The album includes nine originals and a tender Gordon Lightfoot cover, all marked by harmony, heart, and the unmistakable chemistry of a band that listens deeply to each other.

Since the release, Boreal has toured widely across Ontario and Manitoba, bringing Winterbirds to festivals and theatres including Guelph’s Hillside Festival and Owen Sound’s Summerfolk. With a year-round touring schedule and ever-evolving musical synergy, Boreal continues to connect with audiences through powerful storytelling, shared artistry, and unforgettable live shows.

“Boreal graced our Acoustic Harvest stage with a brilliant, inspiring and memorable evening of beautiful song and glorious harmonies. They are truly Canadian treasures and we are so blessed to have them enriching our lives.”
- Lillian Wauthier (Artistic Director - Acoustic Harvest, Toronto, ON)

“With stunningly beautiful voices, Boreal captures the festive spirit like no other act I’ve ever presented. With exquisitely intricate harmonies and heartwarming stories, Boreal connects with their audience in a profound way. Our show was a sellout and we immediately booked them for next season! Highly recommended!”
- George Scott (Songwriter’s Showcase Presenter, Alliston and Beeton, ON)

"The Boreal show was one of the highlights of our concert series for much of our audience. The trio’s fantastic harmonies and effortless delivery from the stage instantly connects them with the audience, transforming our concert hall into a cozy living room for the entire show. "
- John Payne (Artistic Director - Tour de Fort, Fort Francis, ON)

THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER

Playing Friday, December 12th at 2pm and 7pm!

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (2024) is an American Christmas comedy-drama directed by Dallas Jenkins and based on Barbara Robinson’s beloved 1972 novel. The film stars Judy Greer as Grace Bradley, Pete Holmes as her husband Bob, Molly Belle Wright as their daughter Beth (voiced by Lauren Graham as the adult narrator), and features a standout performance by Beatrice Schneider as Imogene Herdman.

Set in early 1980s small-town America, it follows the chaos that ensues when the notorious Herdman siblings (“the worst kids in the history of the world”) barge into the annual church nativity pageant. Chaos ensues, leading to a heartfelt reckoning of the true meaning of Christmas! Released theatrically by Lionsgate in November 2024, the film was both a critical and box-office success, earning praise for its direction and strong performances.

This is a must-see holiday film - not just for its warm, family-friendly humour, but for how it cleverly subverts expectations...sometimes the most unlikely characters are those who best understand the Christmas story. Judy Greer’s portrayal of a well-meaning but overwhelmed mom discovering real grace, paired with the Herdmans’ raw, authentic curiosity, makes the pageant something truly transformative both on screen and in spirit. It's the perfect way to get ready for the holidays!
