Esoteric Trap Art Show: Lauren Graham’s Self-Discovery Through Art Exploration

the CO. is excited to announce the Artist in Residence show Esoteric Trap, featuring the evocative artwork of Lauren Graham. This immersive showcase is the culmination of Lauren’s art she has created during her Artist in Residency at the CO. Chatham.

In her artist statement, Lauren shares her journey of creative exploration, stating, "I’ve been creating my whole life, but it wasn’t until I graduated high school that I started creating with more intent. The mess that comes with smearing and whipping watered-down acrylics on a canvas allows me to connect with my emotions in a fluid way words do not. To me, art is not just something pretty to look at, but an outlet to pour my truth into."

Through a collection of captivating pieces, Lauren invites viewers to join her on a journey of self-discovery, celebrating the beauty in embracing one's true self and existing in the present moment. "It’s a playful jab at how we dramatize and overcomplicate universal emotions that are not all that serious in the grand scheme of things - all while validating these emotions, allowing us to move forward," shares Lauren.

The Artist Residency at the CO. is a program developed for new to mid-career artists who have a lived experience with mental health. The artist is provided with a community-based art studio to create in, as well as a  culminating solo exhibit. The residency program began in 2020 and continues to support local artists today.

Esoteric Trap art show will be held from 7-8PM at the CO. in Sarnia on Friday, May 31st (780 Rosedale Ave). Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with Lauren and gain insight on her creative process. Admission is free, donations to the artist are appreciated.
