Community Event - Ottawa Valley - Kiwanis Christmas Toy Drive
The Kiwanis Christmas Toy Drive is on!
The Kiwanis Club of Pembroke is pleased to announce that we will be undertaking a money and toy donation project to replace that of the former Salvation Army. Money will be collected at all of the former sites where the Kettle Drive by the Salvation Army took place – Moncions Metro, No Frills, The Pembroke Mall, LCBO, Walmart, Giant Tiger. Petawawa Independent. Many volunteers are needed to man these locations. A schedule will be available, for volunteers to sign up, from Mack Thrasher at mackc_100@sympatico.ca (note, there is an underscore between the c and the 1) or Chris St. Jean at Stjeancm@bell.net or at ToyDrive@PembrokeKiwanis.org
The drive will begin on November 28th and go until December 21st. Times are 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Volunteers will be at Moncion’s – December 6,7,12,13, 18, 19, 20, 21. Volunteer sheets will be available for organizations and groups to sign up for attending each location to help collect donations. Receipts for donations of $20 or more will be available.
Funds will be collected and held by the Kiwanis Club in a separate account. Once all the toys that are needed are purchased, surplus funds will be divided between St. Josephs Food Bank, St Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen and the Grind. No funds will be retained by the Kiwanis Club. All funds raised will be used in Pembroke and area. Many other service clubs, organizations, individuals and groups will be involved in this project
As well, new toys and food may be donated during the Santa Claus Parade by putting them on the Kiwanis Aktion Club float and the Rotary truck/float which will follow immediately behind the Aktion Club float. Watch for Algonquin College students who will accompany the float to pick up food and toy donations..
The toys will be collected and assembled at Moncions Metro basement – formerly Thee Place. There they will be sorted and packed for each family. A pick up date will be published so that families may pick up their bag of toys. Families in need, may register on Mondays at St. Joseph’s Food Bank. Some deliveries may be made just before Christmas to less fortunate families in our community.
