11th Annual historic Christmas show. Saturday November 23rd,  2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Salvation Army Citadel, 46 Orangewood Blvd. in Chatham  Join us for old-fashioned storytelling and carol singing in a candle lit setting, in this benefit show for the Salvation Army’s food programs across Chatham-Kent.

This year’s show is set during the Christmas season of 1879. Queen Victoria is still on the throne, Canada is more than a decade old, and in Kent County, a Chatham grandfather has gathered with his friends and family for a bit of cheer.  Tales of Christmases Past are shared, and old carols ring out once again. Together, we’ll brave an early winter storm to travel down the Thames towards ‘Old Sandwich Town’, where we’ll learn a story from the heart of the forest that lead to Canada’s First Christmas Carol!   Back in  town, Grandmother will meet Grand-mere and share a laugh about making ‘A Potato Pie for Christmas’ .  The evening will finish with a story about the Yule Log, a fancy cake with an ancient past and how a tradition handed down for generations nearly lead to a disaster on Christmas eve!

If you’d like to practice, this year’s songs will include Tom Jackson’s version of ‘The Huron Carol’, ‘Sing we now of Christmas’, and of course, ‘Jingle Bells’!  Song books are provided for those that wish to sing along.

Admission is by free-will offering only.  Performances are at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., Saturday November 23rd, at the Salvation Army Citadel, 46 Orangewood Blvd. in Chatham.  There is plenty of free parking and the site is Accessible.  While the show is family friendly, there are some strong themes.

Guests are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for a chance to win great prizes that have been donated by area merchants.

To learn more, or to reserve seats for your family or group, please call 519-436-6220 or email storyteller@mdirect.net
