Sat. Oct. 26, 3 p.m., Kathryn Johnston returns to Kingston and is featured as Josephine in Gilbert & Sullivan’s comic operetta H.M.S. PinaforeThe concert will also feature the Kingston Youth Orchestra directed by Hugh Johnston. Dr. Colleen Reinehan, Professor of Music at the Dan School of Drama and Music, will do a pre-concert talk. Dr. Darryl Edwards, Voice Professor at The University of Toronto, conducts members of the COSI Connection* in this rollicking tail. Tickets available at Novel Idea, Eventbrite or at the door.

ACWR is partnering with The Initiative Core Gallery (IGNR) and The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama‘at (AMJ) to honour and celebrate Islamic Heritage Month. This event will feature the artwork of Hadi Ali Chaudhary. Join us for a reception on Friday and a calligraphy workshop on Saturday. Free and open to the public!

Hadi Ali Chaudhary was born in Rabwah, Pakistan in 1956. He graduated from Jamia Ahmadiyya (University of Islamic studies) in 1977, where he was known for excelling in academics and athletics.

Hadi Ali is blessed with the God-given talent of an artist. From early childhood he had a great interest in writing, photography and painting. He would participate in competitions and volunteer in his community to write teachings on banners and walls. As people began to recognize his work, he was also asked to design entrances for special occasions. Arabic calligraphy has become one of Hadi Ali’s principal hobbies as it also relates to religion and spirituality. His work can be seen in mosques in a number of cities around the world and his calligraphy designs have been used for titles and illustrations in religious publications worldwide. He was also one of the chief artists for the most valuable and knowledgeable book of the century, Revelation, Rationality, Knowledge and Truth, by Hadhrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad (ra) .

Hadi Ali’s professional achievements include authoring 18 books to date. He taught young children for almost a decade on Muslim Television Ahmadiyya, as well as participating in scholarly programs. He currently makes regular appearances in a live Q&A segment on a multicultural radio in Toronto.

Hadi Ali Chaudhary’s entire collection of artwork has reached almost 1000 pieces. A selection of his work has been displayed in the ROM and as part of a special exhibition of Pakistani art for the Consulate General of Pakistan in Toronto. All four of his children are also inspired and gifted with artistic abilities. In his spare time he enjoys travelling with his family.

السيد هادي علي شودري من مواليد ربوة ، باكستان عام 1956. تخرج من الجامعة الأحمدية للدراسات الإسلامية في عام 1977 ، حيث اشتهر بتفوقه في الأكاديميين وألعاب القوى.

Ce sera une occasion de vous procurer des pièces uniques et faites à la main, par des bénévoles du bazar. La plupart de ces pièces sont éco-responsables puisqu'elles incluent des éléments de la nature ou recyclés. Vous trouverez des articles de décoration et d'ambiance, ainsi que des cadeaux d'hôtesse ou à glisser dans les bas de Noël, pour petits et grands.
