On October 5th, 2019, Dan Giancola is hosting the Be That One Give the Boot To: PTSD Black Tie Gala and Silent Auction Event in order to raise money in collaboration with Refuse To Lose Against PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) in hope of sending as many first responders as possible for treatment as the diagnosis is not covered by insurance.

Refuse To Lose Against PTSD is a not for profit organization. All funds from sales, donations and seminars are donated back into the community to provide resources, education, therapy and rehabilitation to assist those who deserve the life they once had.

The black tie event begins at 5:30 pm and dinner will be served at 7:00 pm. There will be a silent auction from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm as well.

A  table of 8 is $ 600.00 ($ 75.00 per person) or $80.00 for an individual ticket.

Come out for great food, cocktails, dancing, guest speakers and to support a great organization !

Chatham-Kent Public Library will be holding a free Intro to 3D Printing Workshop at it's Chatham Branch on Wednesday, October 16 at 6:30 pm.  Learn about the library’s 3D printers, user guidelines, where to find 3D models and how to create original 3D models. 

Upon completion of the workshop patrons can submit one 3D model to be printed for free. All ages are welcome. Registration is required and seating is limited.

Are you struggling to do your part for the environment? Do you feel stuck in a rut and want to make a lifestyle change for the better? Chatham-Kent Public Library’s Adulting 101 program hosts Reanne Rekker, Thursday, October 3 at 6:30 pm in the Chatham Branch Meeting Room. Reanne Rekker is the creator of the Zero Waste Chatham-Kent Ontario group. Reanne will demonstrate how she has reduced her carbon footprint in the kitchen, bathroom and in her closet.

This program is part of our “Adulting 101” series, which provides an opportunity for adults (16+) to come together and learn different life skills in a fun and welcoming environment.

Well, we sure hope so.

The Windsor Poetry Slam is back again for its monthly slam and this month’s feature, a Haiku Deathmatch!

The slam will be held at Phog Lounge on Tuesday, September 24th. Doors will be open at 7:30 pm; the show will start at 8 pm. If you want to slam please be there by 7:45 pm at the latest to sign up. As always, two rounds of three-minute poems, along with an open mic portion for anyone who wants to share their poems but not compete in the slam and, some sacrifices.

There will be cash prizes for the top poets!

Come watch as 2018 Haiku Grand Champion, Benny Alexander defends his title against challenger, Samantha Michelle!

These two will go head to head with their haikus, and the audience will choose their favourite poem of the round by applause. The first poet to win 10 rounds will win the title of Windsor Poetry Slam's 2019 Haiku Grand Champion!

Will Samantha Michelle be able to dethrone Benny Alexander? Or will he walk away with the crown two years running? Find out.

These days, millions of people all over the world are exploring their family histories. Genealogy is one of the most popular pastimes for people of all ages. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced researcher, there is always more to learn and to share!

Starting on Tuesday, September 17, the public library will make it easier for you to connect with others who share your interest in genealogy.  On Tuesday evenings, our local history librarian and members of the Kingston Branch of Ontario Ancestors (formerly the Ontario Genealogical Society) will be on hand to answer questions and offer assistance.  Work on your family tree, explore research sources, meet new friends and share strategies with others. No registration is necessary, and all are welcome. 

Bring your laptop or tablet (or pencil and paper) and drop in to the Central Branch of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday evenings from September 17 to November 5.
