The Prince Edward Family Health Team will offer a free blood pressure clinic on Tuesday, October 1st at North Marysburgh Town Hall located at 2699 Prince Edward County Road 8. High blood pressure is a dangerous condition in adults that is a major risk factor for heart attack and stroke. Blood Pressure Clinics enable you to have your blood pressure checked by a professional nurse. This drop in clinic will start at 10:00 and end at 12:00pm.  Call the County Seniors Centre for more information and to register at 613-476-7493.

“Everyone Can Learn To Paint” … Artist instructor Luanne Hartman will introduce painting with watercolour.  Complete 3 to 5 paintings to take away.  This program will run for 6 consecutive weeks with 2 hour classes starting Friday, September 27th from 1:00 to 3:00pm at Athol Town Hall located at 1685 County Road 10, Cherry Valley.  Course fees include all supplies for this workshop.  County Senior Centre members $168.00, Non-member fee $198.00.  Pre-registration and pre-payment are required.  Contact the County Seniors Centre to register at 613-476-7493.

Support groups provide an opportunity for care partners caring for someone living in the community, who share a similar experience, to support one another, exchange information and ideas and in doing so, strengthen their capacity to cope. Case counsellors facilitate these groups and offer information and guidance according to the needs and interests of the group. Learn about the rich barley history, wildflowers and animals of the area.  Enjoy an exceptional panoramic view of Prince Edward Bay. Terry Sprague will guide this hike which explores the Little Bluff Conservation area located at 3625 County Road 13, Milford.  Bring water and good footwear.  A walking stick may be helpful as well. Hike starts at 10:00am. Quinte Waste Solutions will present information on how to recycle properly for those living in a multiresidential facility such as apartment buildings, retirement residences, townhouses and condos. This presentation will also touch on regular household recycling, the proper methods for backyard composting and how it differs from the Green Bin. As well, there will be a discussion around medical waste, how to properly dispose of it, and why it doesn’t belong in the Blue Box.  Bring questions.  This presentation is open to all on Tuesday, September 24th from 10:30 to 11:30pm at North Marysburgh Town Hall located at 2699 Prince Edward County Road 8, K0K 2T0. Tai Chi for Seniors – Starts September 23rd, 2019 (12 weeks) - Picton  Beginner and continuation Tai Chi classes are held Mondays at the office of Community Care for Seniors, 74A King Street, Picton, through the County Seniors Centre. Tai Chi helps seniors stay fit and flexible. Tai Chi is a low-impact form of exercise. It is also a weight bearing exercise which is an important component of managing osteoporosis. Some of the benefits of Tai Chi are: better balance, which lowers the risk for falls, less pain and stiffness, stress relief and increased calmness and sense of well-being. And to top it off, it also helps to improve memory. No experience is necessary and all fitness levels are welcome. If you’re a senior 60+ who would benefit from Tai Chi and would like to give it a try, call the County Seniors Centre at 613-476-7493. Prepayment is required, Beginner $25.00 and Continuation $12.00.  Space is limited and it is recommended to sign up early. A membership is required to join Tai Chi.

Wood/Bark Carving Series – September 20th, 2019 (6 weeks) – Sophiasburgh Town Hall This 6 week carving course will be taught by Lisa Thompson of the Quinte Wood Carvers Association.  This is a beginner level introduction to the world of wood and bark carving mediums. Basic instructions on techniques and use of tools.  This presentation will run from 1:30 to 3:30pm starting Friday September 20th at Sophiasburgh Town Hall, 2771 County Road 5, Demorestville.  Cost for the series is $40.00 for members, non-members $60.00.Supplies included, bring your own cut resistant or leather work gloves.   Call the County Seniors Centre for more information or to register at 613-476-7493.
