Community Event - Kingston - IN THEATRE NOW: DAN School’s Love and Information
Queen’s University’s DAN School of Drama and Music is proud to announce Love and Information written by Caryl Churchill, directed by Michael Wheeler as our Winter 2025 Major Production.
Love and Information marked a significant moment in Churchill’s career, further cementing her reputation as one of the most innovative and influential playwrights of modern theatre. The play is structured as a series of more than 50 short, unrelated scenes, with no recurring characters or fixed storyline. This fragmented structure reflects the fast-paced, fragmented nature of the Internet data flow, modern communication and the way information is consumed.
The director, Michael Wheeler brings a groundbreaking approach to Love and Information, focusing on audience participation as a central element of the production. In this innovative staging and space resembling the online information nexus, the audience steps into the role of a shadow director, actively influencing various aspects of the performance. From shaping the order of scenes to lighting design, their engagement transforms the play into an interactive experience. This production reimagines Love and Information as a dynamic collaboration between the audience and student creators, making each performance a distinct and unrepeatable event.
Love and Information showcases the talent of student actors and production team, with contributions on stage and behind the scenes, including lighting, sound, original composition, computer science, set, and props design. This production not only provides audiences with an interactive and immersive theatrical experience but also offers approximately 100 students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in bringing this complex and innovative play to life.
