Earth Day 2019 Highlights Species at Risk

Join local residents and millions of people worldwide in celebrating Earth Day on Sunday, April 28, 2019! The City of Windsor and the Essex Windsor Solid Waste Authority will host a free public celebration from 10am to 3pm at Malden Park (4200 Malden Road).

This year’s national theme is “Protect our Species,” and our local celebration will include a pop-up adventure playground, environmental arts and crafts, eco-exhibits, Super Duper Ultra Guy and over 30 environmental exhibits to check out. New this year, Sciensational SSSnakes and the Art Lab Splatter Tent will be on hand too.

There will be food and drinks for sale, so bring some cash.

Earth Day is a worldwide event held to increase awareness and appreciation of the earth’s natural environment. The City of Windsor is hoping to educate residents on environment and sustainability issues by using hands-on, interactive methods. More than 30 different organizations will participate in this event, which is designed to provide a voice and venue to environmental causes.

Can-Am Golf Series in Support of 2022 Police-Fire Games

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens is pleased to announce the first annual Can-Am Golf Series in support of the 2022 Can-Am Police Fire Games.

“Windsor is well-known as an exceptional location for major events, and we plan to deliver another ‘best games ever’ experience in 2022,” said Mayor Dilkens. “And, leading up to it, the organizing committee and the City of Windsor will host four fundraising golf events to raise awareness and funds in support of the Games.”

This year’s event will be held on Monday, June 17, 2019 at the Roseland Golf & Curling Club. It will be a shotgun start—scramble format. Registration and breakfast begin at 9am, and tee time is at 10am. Lunch will be served on the course, followed by a cocktail reception, BBQ and prizes and silent auction from 4pm.

There is room for 144 golfers and individual tickets, sponsorship packages and more can be found at windsorcanamgolf.com.

“Windsor Essex was fortunate to be chosen as the host city for the 2022 Can-Am Police Fire Games and part of our commitment during the bidding process was the unwavering statement that the Windsor Essex community rallies around and supports events that choose our hometown,” said Gordon Orr, Chief Executive Officer Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island. “This Can-Am Golf Series is all about building up that community engagement and heightening the awareness of this signature sporting event coming to Windsor in 2022.”

Proceeds from the 2019 Can-Am Golf Series will support the hosting of the 2022 Can-Am Police-Fire Games in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, July 25-31, 2022.

“The Can-Am Golf Series is a great event that will spark interest and create awareness for the 2022 Windsor-Essex Can-Am Police-Fire Games. This event is important for the entire community to participate in along with the various Emergency Services Agencies that are represented in Windsor-Essex. I look very much forward to attending this event myself on June 17, 2019,” said William Merrylees, Can-Am Police-Fire, Executive President.

To register or become a sponsor, please contact event coordinators Nora Romero at nromero@citywindsor.ca or Hayley Morgan at hmorgan@citywindsor.ca or visit www.windsorcanamgolf.com. The registration deadline is June 10, 2019.
