Performance of Handel’s great oratorio, “Messiah” marks an historic linkage of two outstanding local music groups: Belleville Choral Society is entering its 60th season ; the Quinte Symphony is celebrating it’s silver anniversary season. “Messiah” is one of the best known choral works in western music but has not been performed locally in a number of years. Collaborators, Mirijam Spolestra , of the Choral Society, and Dan Tremblay of The Symphony have chosen to present the work in a manner similar to it’s original performance in 1791: a 50-voice choir, and a chamber group with continuo representing the fidelity of Handel’s original intentions.
